Air cell chamber

[edit]

Air cell chambers are commonly named Lanova air chambers. See: Troubleshooting and Repairing Diesel Engines by Paul Dempsey.Wdl24.146.23.84 (talk) 01:12, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2. add:In a supercharged engine squirting a jet of engine oil on the bottom of the piston to cool it is frequently used.wdl24.146.23.84 (talk) 23:47, 19 October 2008 (UTC) 3. Some additional heat and /or glowplugs are needed for a cold engine start.wdl24.146.23.84 (talk) 23:13, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indirect injection

[edit]

No large low rpm diesels have used indirect injection. With the advancing of technology over more than hundred years direct injection rpm has steadily increased. With the recently developed super high presure injection indirect injection will likely become obsolete except in the economical small engines.Another example of shifting boundaries due to better technology.See diesel and glow head differences and development.wdl24.146.23.84 (talk) 01:36, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Undiscussed deletion

[edit]

Mr Dingley, you seem to be following me around and deleting my additions. I may have put Prosper L'Orange and Harry Ricardo in the wrong section but you could have moved them rather than deleting them. I am not the only person who considers them relevant, as you can see from the contributions of other editors above. Biscuittin (talk) 18:21, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can also move them as well. Just because it's deleted doesn't mean it needs to stay deleted.--Dana60Cummins (talk) 18:34, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You could cite your claim that Ricardo's combustion chamber design was comparable to l'Orange's. Or even better, you could write an article on Ricardo's actual combustion chamber designs (an excellent topic, if ever there was) and do the job right. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:03, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
See also Hesselman engine. What relevance does UK TVO use (especially added in this unclear and bland fashion) have to an engine that was notable for its use of direct injection?
The goal here is not to write articles, or even to have people read articles, but to have the people who have read those articles learn something in the process, and for that learning to be correct and trustworthy. There are any number of statements we can add to any article, but these statements must not only be correct of themselves, they also need to aid understanding of that article's topic. Hesselman engine could sprout a digression on the Chieftain tank's L60 engine, yet this wouldn't be useful, because it doesn't help the reader to understand the Hesselman engine. Nor does introducing TVO, which was used in engines pretty much the opposite of how the Hesselman worked. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:09, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To Dana60Cummins. Yes, I could re-instate it but it would start an edit war. Biscuittin (talk) 21:27, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To Andy Dingley. (1) See my reply at Talk:Hesselman engine. (2) Are you claiming that Ricardo had nothing to do with the development of indirect injection diesels? If not, how can you deny that he is relevant? Biscuittin (talk) 21:31, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You seem unclear on what a precombustion chamber actually does. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:35, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Tell me what it does then. Biscuittin (talk) 21:42, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have added Harry Ricardo and Prosper L'Orange to this article under "See also". If you think these two people are completely irrelevant to this article then please explain why. Biscuittin (talk) 09:28, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yet again you seem keen to nonsensically misrepresent anyone who disagrees with you, or who challenges your refusal to cite anything. Why not add l'Orange in the article body? He did invent the thing after all. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:31, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you know so much about it, why don't you add l'Orange in the article body? I'm just an ignoramus, remember, and I shall remain ignorant as long as you refuse to explain anything. Biscuittin (talk) 21:16, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Acro combustion chamber

[edit]

The Acro combustion chamber seems to be in the piston, rather than in the cylinder head - see, for example, this 1930 patent [1] Does this count as indirect injection or direct injection? Synthetic Woolly Mammoth (talk) 20:29, 11 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Split up?

[edit]

This article's main topic is Diesel engine indirect injection; I suggest creating two separate articles for Otto cycle engine indirect injection and Diesel cycle engine indirect injection each, as these two injection systems are completely different from each other. --Johannes Maximilian (talk) 20:37, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
