Talk:International Ombudsman Institute

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It should be noted that this group has chosen Thailand which is presently a dictatorship as it's destination for its 11th World Conference of the International Ombudsman Institute (11th IOI World Conference. Thailand's present government is not elected and does not allow open and free discussion of anything political especially topics related to the Junta in power or human rights. The Thai regime in power appears in typical form of a democracy but is in fact was all appointed by the the Junta leader, Prayuth Chan-ocha, who now calls himself prime minister. Please take note, that the IOI through its choice, is saying it is willing to work with fascist regimes and dictatorships seeing them as equal to democracies in its world of Ombudsmanship. If I am wrong about this please let's hear a statement why this conference is held under a Junta.NaturalEquality (talk) 05:03, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IOI is not the only global organization of ombudspeople

[edit]

Quote from the header of wiki page of "Ombudsman":

"In many countries where the ombudsman's responsibility includes protecting human rights, the ombudsman is recognized as the national human rights institution."

Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) is a global organization of human rights institutions.

The scope of IOI and GANHRI is not exactly the same but mostly overlapping so one cannot say IOI is "the only one" global organization of ombudspeople. Kökörcsin (talk) 12:52, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Our page GANHRI does not contain the phrase "ombuds" anywhere. GANHRI itself does not make the claim to be a body for ombudspeople. And your syllogism does not hold, for example:
  1. In many countries, the postal service belongs to government.
  2. But that doesn't make the postal services umbrella body an institution of government representatives.
In terms of policy, I have reverted your edit because of original research; Neither GANHRI nor IOI make a direct claim to have any relationship to each other. Hope that helps, Pgallert (talk) 12:36, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
