Sources?

[edit]

Folks, I have only a passing interesting in this topic as it relates to Texas history. I created the article on that basis.

The sources I have found on this are very limited though it seems like there is some very interesting history to dig into more (the drama surrounding the 1929 and 1930 events in particular with Goldarbeiter's win and the Brazil's anger about the whole thing). Also, some of the sources I used are not very good. The source for the lists of titleholders is a self-published source. Although I have found reliable sources that confirm various pieces of this information I have not found a really good source that confirms all of it. I am reasonably certain the info is all correct (note: I originally pulled the info from the German WP article) but still we should find solid sources to back it up.

If anybody has access to better sources please feel free to add to the share and/or add to the article.

These may be of interest/use: [1] and [2] --Nsaum75 (talk) 17:03, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
More of a fringe publication here: [3] --Nsaum75 (talk) 17:09, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I added a mention about the 2009 contest you are referencing. Also I realized that the Islander magazine source actually had many of the results. The Belgium results I found other sources for so I think I am covered ok on sources now. --Mcorazao (talk) 22:12, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous edits

[edit]

An anonymous editor (83.248.50.194) recently made numerous edits to the article. While I believe that the edits were well intentioned they were mostly either erroneous or, IMHO, not appropriate. I'll elaborate:

  • The editor changed the years for several of the winners presumably thinking that there was an error for 1930 (the second time somebody has done that).
  • The editor removed most of the US events in the See Also section replacing them with competitions in other countries. The reason the US events were explicitly mentioned was that this contest heavily and directly influenced them. If we start listing every beauty contest in every country this section becomes pointless.
  • The editor removed the names of the countries in which the events were held. Though it is not a huge deal, since the events were held in different countries it is simpler for the reader to have that information readily presented in the tables.

Interesting photo

[edit]

We have a pic from the contest of 1930 at the Infobox but there is a photo even older, from 1926 here. I don't know the copyright issue well. Could someone please see if we could load this picture to WP? Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 16:18, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done, and way ahead of you. See 1926 International Pageant of Pulchritude, which I edited. I've uploaded the images from the first, second, and fifth pageants. Sang'gre Habagat (talk) 01:29, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Although I did not understand very well what you did, thank you very much. I also did not understand the "way ahead of you" part; are we in a competition here? --E4024 (talk) 15:05, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, no. I was just saying that it had already been done before your request. Sang'gre Habagat (talk) 16:17, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Possible vandalism?

[edit]

The top of the table says the name Gedeon Manlulu, who appears to be a random person. Is it vandalism? 87.122.16.45 (talk) 14:03, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
