Ivan is a common Volksdeutsche given name?

[edit]

Ivan is a common Volksdeutsche given name? seems like wp:or. Could find no source to back op that claim; Only one that did the reverse... — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 13:23, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well I found a source now that says: Volksdeutsche where known to have Slavic given names[1]. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 13:43, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the video doesn't say it's Ivan. Do you have a photo that actually identifies the person as Ivan? Ego White Tray (talk) 13:21, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

biografie:

Ivan Marchenko, b. 1910?, was a Ukrainian "Hiwi," or Helper/ assistant of the nazis, had been a Soviet POW at Chelm Lubelski and was recruited for training at Trawniki in October 1941. In May 1942 he too was posted to the Lublin Ghetto as a guard before being transferred to Treblinka, where together with yet another Ukrainian, Nikolay Shalayev, he was responsible for operating the motor that produced the exhaust fumes which were fed into the gas chambers, and for supervising the killing process. [1][2]

He was mistaken for being Ivan Demjanjuk, who was exonerated of being "Ivan the Terrible," during a trial in Israel. Demjanjuk was 10 years younger than Marchenko, and he was later accused of being a guard at other camps.

Living...

[edit]

Hi Poeticbent: I understand your reason for reverting my edit, however, my understanding of the MOS is that if there is a living people category or possibly living people category there should be living=yes parameter in the biography tag on the talk page. If I misunderstood this, please let me know. Also wouldn't a blpo parameter be helpful? Thanks in advance,--FeanorStar7 19:17, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi again; actually there is a hidden category: Possibly living people. This is why I had changed the tag on the talk page to living=yes.--FeanorStar7 22:09, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

The Devil Next Door (Netflix Documentary)

[edit]

The documentary shows documents that were used by Demjanjuk to enter the USA which show his mother's maiden name as Martschenko. The conclusion is left to viewer interpretation but it's clearly meant to show that Demjanjuk was Ivan the Terrible all along. I hope a Wiki editor of some experience will do this justice by adding the information to the article. https://www.netflix.com/watch/81045991 — Calydon (talk) 16:43, 19 November 2019 (UTC) [reply]

I seem to remember that there were claims that Ivan the Terrible was killed in the Sobibor prisoners' revolt in 1943. Can anyone clarify? PatGallacher (talk) 19:53, 12 January 2021 (UTC) [reply]

Extradition

[edit]

The article says he was extradited to Germany but it was Israel. 162.251.45.21 (talk) 04:17, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The German page tells different story

[edit]

The German page tells a different story, claiming:

- Ivan the terrible was named Iwan Martschenko and died 1943.

- Ivan the terrible was not named John Demjanjuk:

"Confusion of Ivan the Terrible's identity with John Demjanjuk"

"However, as photos show, Demjanjuk and Marchenko were of different ages and heights, had different builds and different hair colors. On the other hand, they shared similarities such as a rounded face, protruding ears, almond-shaped eyes and thin lips."
