Untitled
[edit]I don't think the portrait accompanying this article is that of Jan Potocki. I believe that the person depicted is Edmund Chojecki, who translated Potocki's "Manuscrit..." into Polish. Compare the portrait of Potocki at www.jose-corti.fr/auteursromantiques/potocki.html
You are correct - I have replaced photo of Edmund Chojecki with that of Jan Potocki. --Ttyre 12:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Mental health statements
[edit]I removed the following text:
- It is most likely that he was driven to suicide by manic depression (itself a likely symptom of syphilis), but some rather far-fetched accounts suggest that Potocki believed himself to be a werewolf.
This type of speculation in an encyclopedia is irresponsible.
Recent Editions of the Saragaoosa Script
[edit]I removed the paragraph starting
- "The first complete modern version of the book (in French) was published in France in 1989"
It should be reading (if at all) :"The first complete modern french version of the book ..."
All used book platforms of international realm show that the book was published again and again in modern times and in many languages. IMO there is no reason to pull attention to this specific edition (and doubt any of the others are worthwhile mentioning). It bears a strong reek of promotion. steffen heinrich - 87.187.35.115 (talk) 21:16, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
"The first English-language edition, published in 1995" This can't be correct, unless it means the first complete edition. I have an Avon paperback from circa 1960, translated from the French by Elizabeth Abbott, and the copyright page says (c) 1960 by The Orion Press, which I assume is a hardcover edition. Name Pronunciation
[edit]I noted that in the first paragraph after the legend an editor has offered a clue as to how a reader is to pronounce Potocki's last name. Might this information be included after the author's name at the top, in the same style it is with other entries? 198.69.251.152 (talk) 08:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
