Pretty well done. I plan to add some more later.

Interestingly enough, I had the pleasure in recording Jason when he was in High School. Jason was in a funky little band called the "Spineriders" I did a quick live recording in my first studio located in my parents basement.

The name

[edit]

I was under the impression that there was some debate over the reasoning behind the "ohia" part of the name, with some claims that it's the phonetic spelling of Jason's home state in the local accent, amongst others. Dancarney 20:40, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Yes. I added this part to the bio. Jason has mentioned in an interview that the state gave the impetus to naming the band, but that he later learned of the Hawaiian flower and more or less redesignated the band name. He also admitted that he still uses both pronounciations. I'll see if I can provide the source. trialsanderrors 08:28, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Location

[edit]

I know Jason grew up in the Cleveland area, but did he reside there while working as Songs: Ohia? More likely choices seem to be Chicago and Bloomington. trialsanderrors 08:33, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

I wonder if this article would be a bit more coherent if it were titled "Jason Molina", with "Songs: Ohia" and "Magnolia Electric Co." redirecting to it? Dancarney 12:25, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the "Songs: Ohia stands for all of Jason Molina's projects" line is a bit outdated. ~ trialsanderrors 01:54, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate was PAGE MOVED per discussion. There was a non-trivial history at Jason Molina already, so I swapped the histories, and the edits previously located here can be found at Songs: Ohia. -GTBacchus(talk) 21:40, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Songs: OhiaJason Molina – per discussion above. Should be uncontroversial, but there is a (short) edit history at Jason Molina, so I'm listing this anyway. ~ trialsanderrors 18:11, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Living in England

[edit]

At a show on October 4, 2007 at Zaphod Beeblebrox (nightclub), Molina told the crowd he now lives in England. I don't have a source to back that up, just thought I would through it out there. --Padraic 14:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

Just saw that he passed away the 16th. Will there be a "Death" section? --Matt723star (talk) 22:34, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I added it. I hope that's alright. --Matt723star (talk) 22:40, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Musical Style & Instrumentation

[edit]

Somewhere in the text, it is mentioned that he no longer used "the tenor guitar" for a certain record. Maybe someone could write a bit about the musical style and the instrumentation at the time when he did use this unusual equipment?
