An image - file Joyce A Bender Photo - is our page. It is marked for speedy deletion. The image was taken by Bender. When it was uploaded it was licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. I do not think the image should be marked for speedy deletion as it was taken by Bender and is not a page about Joyce Bender. Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated. Can an editor take the speedydelete tag off or does the image need to be uploaded using additional tags. If the imiage needs to be uploaded please let me know the exact tags to use and where they go. Thanks so much. (Benderwiki (talk) 13:15, 16 September 2010 (UTC))[reply]

You said in email to me a few minutes ago:

Thanks for looking at issue of speedydelete on my image Joyce A Bender Photo.jpg. You removed the {{HANGON}} tag and said the image was not not nominated for speedy deletion. However when I go to the page under the description of the image it does say "This file is a candidate for speedy deletion. It may be deleted after seven days from the date of nomination." and now the picture does not show at all. It does seem that previously the image was taken down after 7 days. I got the image out there yesterday by uploading with a different name on the image and changing the edit to that name. There now just is a link File:Joyce A Bender Photo.jpg. Clicking on this link takes to the upload page.

Two additional questions 1) How can I get the text "This file may be a candidate for speedy deletion..." removed from the page. 2) How can I get the picture to appear again? Sorry to be a pain but I have been playing with this off and on since May. This is the first time I figured out how to get in contact with someone. Thanks again.

Let me take a look and see if I can figure out what's going on, then I'll reply here. Just FYI, WP email is not anonymous; it reveals your real email address to the recipient. That's the reason I did not reply via email. Regards, TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 19:30, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've got good news and bad news.
  • The good news is that you have apparently solved your copyright problems with the photo and I've straightened out the problems you describe in your email.
  • The bad news is that most if not all of the text of the article violates Wikipedia's copyright policies and I'm going to have to tag it for speedy deletion as a copyright violation. (If I don't do it, an automated process will probably do it anyway.) While a lot of page drafting can be done in userspace to avoid deletion, a few things still aren't allowed: vandalism, attacks, spam, copyright violations, and a couple more. It doesn't make any difference if you are the copyright holder or if you have their consent to use the material, it still cannot be used on Wikipedia unless you follow one of the processes here, and if you're going to do that you need to start the process very quickly if you are to avoid deletion. Please note, however, that following either of those processes allows anyone in the world to use your material, not just Wikipedia. There is no way other (at least none that Wikipedia will accept) to give permission in a way that only Wikipedia but no one else can use your material. The better and easier course may be to rewrite the material, but be aware in that regard that paraphrasing, change of first to third person, changes in verb tense, and similar revisions of the material will not generally be regarded to be enough to avoid the copyright problem; it really has to be rewritten from the ground up.
  • Finally, without a working knowledge of Wikipedia policy it can be very frustrating to try to write an article that won't be deleted. I've tried several times to write a better introduction to editing than can be found at the Article Wizard and Your First Article and I can't. Don't be tempted to skip past sections of either one, they're full of solid gold information. Also, if you've not done so already, you need to read the Notability, Verifiability, No original research, What Wikipedia is not, and Conflict of interest policies from beginning to end.

I disagree. The text of the draft article is almost totally different from the webpage you cite. IMHO, Benderwiki has done quite a good job at avoiding the temptation to copy readily available content from elsewhere. Astronaut (talk) 20:34, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See discussion on User talk:TransporterMan#Joyce Bender. Astronaut (talk) 20:45, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I now agree, but would note that after Astronaut's deletion of the Background section that there are still some copyvio passages, though not enough to continue to meet the G12 speedy deletion criteria, so I have declined my own speedy nomination and removed the hangon.
