I don't think she needed to be the alternate to qualify for the Worlds. Tom Sallows wasn't Gushue's alternate, but still went to the Worlds last year. Anyway, Lawes wasn't at at the Scotties, as evidenced by her social media timeline during the week. e.g. this tweet. -- Earl Andrew - talk01:02, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The question isn't whether she was at the Scotties or not, but rather whether she is deemed to have "won" the Scotties as an alternate. Her being there or not is more less important than 80% of the other alternates who never throw a rock and "win" any other championship that they compete in. Besides the Scotties actually does list her as an alternate on the team. http://www.curling.ca/2018scotties/teams/ The previous Curling.ca post also captions the image as "Team Manitoba, skip: Jennifer Jones; third: Shannon Birchard; second: Jill Officer; lead: Dawn McEwen; alternate: Kaitlyn Lawes; Coach: Wendy Morgan win the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts the Canadian Womens Curling Championships, the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, Penticton, British Columbia (Curling Canada/Andrew Klaver photo)". Yes, I did see that. The relevance of her not physically being there is that she wasn't there to help the team to do normal alternate things, like team support stuff, or most importantly be there in case one of the players was sick or injured. Anyways, I'm not sure how we should proceed, as different sources show her as being the alternate and also not being the alternate, depending on where you look. But from my view, it doesn't feel right to say that she had an 'appearance' at the 2018 Scotties let alone medal. -- Earl Andrew - talk03:36, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
