Mother's fate?
[edit]I know in the 2nd OVA we see that Kaoru's mother died (probably of an illness) and she was grieving while her father was practicing outside. I know the OVA is not usually considered canon, and was wondering if this same scene had been in the manga. If it was it would be good to add under her history. I know at some point it was referenced that her 'parents' (plural) had died in the Seinen war, but the article only specifically references her father. Can anyone clarify who died when? Small addition of Kamiya Kasshin Ryu section
[edit]I put a small note in that Kaoru uses a bokken while Yahiko uses a shinai, and double checked the volume (15) to make sure. I practice kendo and thought the difference may be worth noting. --Katsuhagi 00:10, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Which family name does the couple use?
[edit]What family name does Kaoru take when she marries Kenshin? I always assumed she'd become Himura Kaoru, but some people I've heard from suggest that Kenshin adopts her family name (Kamiya Kenshin?) due to the fact that she is of samurai descent with a real family name, whereas Himura is just a name given him by Katsura Koguro so he'd blend in with the samurai. However wouldn't it be against Japanese custom (perhaps even law) for the man to take the woman's name, seeing as Japan is a patriarchal culture?
Jinchuu Crusader 06:16, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Kaoru indeed becomes Himura Kaoru when she marries Kenshin (because Kenji is referred as Himura Kenji in the manga's Character Profile 54).
- Since the story is set in the Meiji era, Kaoru wouldn't have that much trouble becoming Himura Kaoru. No, it wouldn't be against Japanese custom or law for the man to take the woman's name, especially in Kaoru (the only daughter of the Kamiya family) and Kenshin's (a wanderer) case. Messages to an anonymous user
[edit]Again, I've deleted your edit. Where does the following quote come from??? It isn't from the (original) script!
I would live my life, the rest of my life, only for you, just to make you happy, because that is what you truly deserve.
Kenshin and Kaoru marry around two years after they first met? according to what? They met in early 1878 and Kenji looks about two or three in Summer 1882. In any case, since it's not stated in the manga, it's not a fact. Seven 03:01, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Again, I've corrected your edit. There's no point of mentioning that Kenshin and Karou are alive and healthy in 1883, as the polt from Seisōhen takes place after that!
I've deleted your edit about Kenshin and Kaoru being deeply in love (in 1883), because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia (not a forum to write about your comments or/and feelings about the series!)
Your insightful edits would be great for a RK fan website, but the articles here should be based on facts. Seven 22:12, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Temporary Protection???
[edit]In the past month, an anonymous user's been editing the article (as well as a few other RK articles) not only with facts, but also with inaccurate info, "fan fic" and personal interpretations repeatedly. He/She has disregarding the policies and comments from other editors such as Katsuhagi, Sasuke-kun27, and myself.
Moreover, on 25 October 2006, he/she changed 202.156.6.54's "i luv tomoe... she is sooooo cute and pretty!!!!!!!" to "i strongly dislike tomoe... she is sooooo dead and ugly!!!!!!!" on the Yukishiro Tomoe discussion page. (Whether 202.156.6.54's message was pointless or not, this anonymous user went too far.)
Since the page has been a recent target of persistent vandalism or/and persistent edits by this anonymous user, should we suggest the page be protected? Seven 00:24, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'd be for temporarily protecting this page against anonymous editing given all the trouble we've had recently. I just had to revert something again. Katsuhagi 00:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I wouldn't mind, either. The IP has ignored all edit summaries we've given them and seem to be disregarding other users completely, acting as if they own the articles and that any edit that wasn't made by them is insignificant. // Sasuke-kun27 01:02, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can do about temporarily getting this locked, since I just had to revert again. This needs to stop and I'm in a bad mood and sick in the first place. Katsuhagi 01:06, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I've put in a semi-protection request. Hopefully they'll get to it fairly quickly. Katsuhagi 01:11, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Darn, declined, due to "Not enough current activity". I'll submit it again if this keeps happening.Katsuhagi 20:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah. Very nice, but listen to the exp. first. Sorry bout the editing. I don't visit the discussion page all that often, and since the more 'romantic' parts of the edits were repeatedly deleted, i thought it was mostly because of annoyed 'tomoe fans' bothered by the credit given. But take a look at this: Back when i first visited the Himura Kenshin page, there was a whole section dedicated to Kenshin's time with Tomoe. And, scrolling down the page, i saw there was what... less than TWO LINES dedicated to the progress of Kenshin and Kaoru's relationship, even when her part in his life was just as big as Tomoe's (or bigger).
A few weeks back, Kaoru bashing was going on not in the discussion page, but on the actual info page thousands will see. She was repeatedly criticized and reffered to as an 'ugly tomboy.' It seems your heroic editing wasn't around to revert that, was it? I reverted it back, but several times the anonymous editor kept on replacing it. So i thought 'Screw it, i'm gonna give them just an ounce of their own insulting crap.' So yes, i did do that little change. But, unlike the anonymous editor who bashed Kaoru on her INFO page and Repeatedly reverted it, i only wrote it down once, and on a discussion page. When it was reverted back to its original 'glory' i let it be, unlike the other anonymous editor. Don't dish out what you can't take back.
If you are so deeply bothered by my one comeback, but easily overlooked the insults about Kaoru given on her INFO page REPEATEDLY, i fail to understand your way of thinking. What i did may have been going 'too far' as you have put it, but where that anonymous editor went was further than i will ever go, and you didn't seem to mind when he/she went that far, did you?
Some of the stuff you've edited wasn't mine. I reverted it because i liked how it sounds and again believed it was the same Tomoe fan doing the previous insulting. Yeah, some of my stuff may be a little opinionated, and i understand the 'factual' deal, but when you look at the difference between mentions of Kaoru and mentions of Tomoe on Kenshin's page, don't you think the editor who made such drastic differences in mention of his two lovers was opinionated, too?
Whatever. I honestly think that Kenshin's page is biased, and so i biased Kaoru's page, too. But i guess it doesn't really matter. A site that would let ANYBODY edit its stuff obviously hasn't thought about the consequences. I mean... anybody could go to Hitler's page and write that he loved to wear pink frocks over purple lingerie and especially loved wearing burgundy lipstick.
Don't worry. This site is pretty stupid to let anybody edit on it (Yes, including me), and i think i'll be ignoring it from now on.
But if Kaoru gets insulted ever again, you'll be hearing from me.'' —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.94.202.90 (talk • contribs) .
- Please do not remove other users comments. It's considred vandalism. Thank you. // Sasuke-kun27 00:59, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not trying to start a fight here, but we have been trying to keep this article clean. I'm not sure about Kenshin's article since I don't have much to do with that one, but bias even to undo bias is still against policy. The repeated ugly bashing of her I reverted - several times - and left comments on those users pages. The main problem with your repeated statements were that they went against policy and were biased, and the fact that you didn't consult with the other people watching this before making them. I understand it could be an honest mistake, but given some of the edits that have happened to this article we've learned to basically revert a new change that seems slightly biased or sweeping. One reason that they Tomoe and Kaoru bits may be unbalanced may be just because Watsuki goes into more concrete detail about Tomoe, not necessarily a bias of the editors. I think you could have a lot of good insight into this article, but you need to consult with us more in order to avoid this type of thing in the future. Katsuhagi 02:14, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- 209.94.202.90, please pay more attention, if another editor didn't get to it first, any bashing on Kaoru would be reverted by me within 3 days. (In other words, if you didn't happen to get to such edits first, they WOULD have been reverted within the same time frame like your edits.) Your recent edits often got deleted within 24 hours because other editors such as Katsuhagi, Sasuke-kun27, and myself have kept an eye on you.
- So no, I've NEVER overlooked the insults about Kaoru given on her page! And YES, I'd mind as much if another editor went as far or even further than you would go! In addition, I WOULD delete all inaccurate info, "fan fic" and personal interpretations on ANY page on my watch, whether it's the Kaoru page, the Tomoe page, or a Shinsengumi page!
- The Kenshin page might not be well balanced (but not biased) and I don't believe that a single editor had made your so-called drastic differences in mention of Kenshin's two wives. All I could say is that some of the editors tend to write an article chronologically. Also, people tend to have more questions about Tomoe (because many fans don't read the manga or/and watch the TV series before they watch the OVA.)
- By the way, I know which stuff I've edited wasn't yours and which was. Seven 02:25, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Incidentally, since I've been recently buying the Jinchuu arc of the manga I've thought of adding more of what happens with Kaoru in it (she gets captured, Kenshin thinks she's dead, etc.) that might balance it. I've actually been a bit bothered by the lack of Jinchuu information but not having the primary source of it haven't wanted to add anything. I'll add this to its own place on the discussion page. Fair use rationale for Image:Kenshinkaorumarriage.JPG
[edit]Image:Kenshinkaorumarriage.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Does Kaoru teach kendo or kenjutsu?
[edit]This article says Kaoru is a kendo teacher, but there's a closeup of her dojo sign in the chapter 151 of the manga (page 58 in the Japanese release, and as for the English one I don't know — I use an illegal scanlated copy :-) ). The dojo sign reads "Kamiya Kasshin Kenjutsu Dojo". Aren't kendo and kenjutsu two different things? More to the point, Wikipedia says kendo is kinda recent set of sword arts, emerging from kenjutsu and starting no earlier than 1912, and RK manga is set in 1878. Kaoru's ja-wiki profile also mentions kenjutsu but doesn't say a word about kendo. So if you ask me, I'm seriously in doubt about Kaoru teaching kendo. ru:Ari —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.147.154.193 (talk) 23:41, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- According to Wikipedia:V#Non-English_sources it is preferable to use official English sources over translations from non-official sources. Since, to my knowledge, Rurouni Kenshin is translated very closely to the original material, it is best if you use the English volumes as a source. Only use unofficial translations if the English version differs completely or if an official English translation is unavailable. When citing the Japanese volumes, please copy the actual Japanese text in the original Japanese volume into the citation. BTW, I think it's kenjutsu, not kendo. Kaoru's grandfather
[edit]In Volume 1, Act 5: The Fight Merchant, Page 127, Kaoru states that her grandfather was a swordsman and an ink painter; she sells one of the paintings so she makes some extra money. Anyway, I'm not sure where to fit this detail in the article... WhisperToMe (talk) 05:10, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello Tintor2, I will be reviewing this article.
The article is fine. The Appearances section is well-cited and isn't given undue weight in the article. The concept section is also well-cited, with proper referencing to the source material. The reception section is free from synthesis as each statement is sourced. I have only one minor concern: the statement in the Reception section which states: "Miki Fujitani (who voices the character) said in an interview that in the OVA series Kaoru is brave and very different from her original version." Exactly how is Kaoru different in the OVA series from the manga, according to Fujitani? This isn't a major issue, but a clarification would be appreciated. I would pass this article right now, but I am first waiting for a response from any of the article's contributors. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 13:00, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review Narutolovehinata5. I already did some changes.Tintor2 (talk) 14:41, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- The issues raised in this GAN and the peer review done two months ago appear to have been resolved. With that, I'm happy to announce that this is a pass. The article might need some more minor fixes (particularly with referencing style), but as of now it's pretty good enough for GA status. Please keep up the good work. Accuracy of "Did you know" statement
[edit]Back in March, there was a "did you know" from this article that stated:
... that the Rurouni Kenshin manga character Kamiya Kaoru was originally meant to die, but the author decided to make her survive to give young readers a happy ending?
The problem is, that statement is somewhat misleading. It seems to imply that the death that we see was originally meant to be a real death but then was changed to be a fakeout partway through the story. If you read Watsuki's notes, he mentions that he considered having her die, but he never said that he intended to go through with it. I recall his notes saying he planned to fake Kaoru's death from the beginning of the Jinchu arc so thst the story would have a happy ending. You can see the setup for her survival several chapters before her apparent death. It's a small but important distinction: Kaoru was never "meant to die". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.56.38.80 (talk) 21:22, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- I remember the notes said he considered killing her (In the Jinchu's arc) throughout the Kyoto arc. When he finished the arc, he noted that fans were satisfied with the happy ending. He then realized he was conflicted whether or not Kaoru should die because it could either because fans of the series liked the happy ending. He originally considered killing as a message of the Jinchu arc but in the end he decided to let the series have a happy ending.
- Also prior to the fake death there some chapters where Enishi's comrades wondered what was Gein exactly doing in secret which I think it was Kaoru's corpse.Tintor2 (talk) 21:46, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- I also remember a line from the Kenshin Kaden book where Watsuki said something like "If it weren't for Kyoto arc, Kaoru would have died."Tintor2 (talk) 01:49, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
