East London AirportKing Phalo Airport – Airport has been renamed for over a year and reliable sources regularly use the new name.

A decision was made to turn back to King Phalo Airport in East London just a few minutes into the flight, when the aircraft’s landing gear – consisting of the wheels and braking system used in takeoff and landing – failed to retract after the jet was airborne. - The Independent

For the second time in less than a week, a FlySafair jet destined for Cape Town was diverted to Gqeberha after a technical issue was picked up after take-off from King Phalo Airport in East London on Monday... - TimesLIVE

On both occasions, the same aircraft operating flight FA143 departed King Phalo Airport in East London for Cape Town International Airport and had to be diverted to Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Gqeberha. - Business Day

In a separate incident a British Airways flight had to make an emergency landing at King Phalo Airport, and an incident that allegedly... - News24 Desertambition (talk) 02:42, 10 April 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 03:20, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment You've demonstrated that some reliable sources use the new name, but has it become become predominant in common global usage per WP:MPN? Searching for preponderance in news sources is difficult, as unusually there appears to be use of both in some articles without expressing a preference, and is further complicated as the airport is sometimes referred to as "East London" without adding "airport", similar to how "Heathrow airport" is normally called "Heathrow". BilledMammal (talk) 05:10, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again BilledMammal, yes I believe consistent coverage by reliable sources, including The Independent, TimesLIVE, Business Day, News24 satisfies both WP:COMMONNAME and WP:MPN.
"For articles discussing the present, use the modern English name (or local name, if there is no established English name), rather than an older one." - WP:MPN Desertambition (talk) 05:23, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is that you haven't demonstrated that there is consistent coverage in reliable sources, just that there is coverage in sources. There are also issues with some of those sources, for instance, News24 may not be a reliable source; for example, they have continued to give credulity to the claim that Gosiame Thamara Sithole gave bith to decuplets, months after the claim was proven false, and they have claimed that a woman in Eastern Cape was 118 years old; if true, that would have made her the oldest person in the world, not Kane Tanaka. BilledMammal (talk) 05:28, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You should take your complaints about reliable sources to WP:RSP, not move requests. If the sources do not convince you, nothing will. I see no use in continuing to debate in circles.
"Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)" Desertambition (talk) 05:31, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will, when I have time. For the moment, the concerns - provided with evidence - need to be raised. And the issue is that you haven't been able to demonstrate prevalence. BilledMammal (talk) 05:35, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you do not have enough time to bring those complaints to WP:RSP but you have raised them in multiple move requests, you should stop mentioning it in move requests or take the time to bring it up in WP:RSP. Desertambition (talk) 05:36, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support a couple searches show it's very clear news sources have referred to this as King Phalo Airport ever since the rename, from a wide multitude of sources. SportingFlyer T·C 13:29, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No evidence presented that the name has become predominant in common global usage as required by WP:MPN. Searches suggest use is conflicted, with less reliable sources preferring the new name, and more reliable sources preferring the old name. Another discussion in a few years, when sources have had time to settle on which name they prefer, could be beneficial. BilledMammal (talk) 06:55, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
