Peer Review

[edit]

You've done an absolutely amazing job! The context you've provided for LGBT discrimination in the listed nations does a great job at filling in some information gaps. The central thing that I think the article needs is just a greater connection between the absolutely fantastic historical analysis presented and migration. How a nation’s history of social movements and legislation intersects with the migration of LGBT+ individuals would cement the topicality of your fantastic contributions and ensure no further challenges from other Wikipedia editors. Other than that, fully articulating the structure of used research can be a great way to make scholarly sources accessible for an audience who does not have the ability or desire to pay for more than journal abstracts. --128.42.51.155 (talk) 01:20, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve article

[edit]

This article is looking great so far! One way I would suggest to improve it is to link subsections to the main articles they pertain to. There are also some missing citations at the ends of some subsections. I am also wondering if there are any differing viewpoints on this topic that need to be represented—does anyone know? For small edits, I think separating Australia from North America in the “Global stances on queer by region” section and adding links to terms in a couple places (ex. “Holocaust” could use a link).

(I should add that I am a student reviewing this article for a class: Education Program:Rice University/Poverty, Justice, Human Capabilities, Section 2 (Fall 2013).) Saira Weinzimmer (talk) 03:46, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiedu Proposal

[edit]

I am interested in creating a new page on LGBT refugees and asylum seekers to serve as a parent article for the existing articles about LGBT refugees and asylum seekers in the US and Canada. See my user page for more detailed information. Avamcclung (talk) 05:00, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I have decided that this article already covers a lot of what I was planning to write, so I will be revising this article instead. I plan to add detail to the regional sections about modern-day attitudes toward LGBT people and reorganize the article a bit. See my user sandbox for more detail.Avamcclung (talk) 01:45, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This article is only about migration

[edit]

It can include LIMITED other information about general living situation of LGBT people if the cited source says that is the reason for migration, but it shouldn't generally have a list of countries that persecute/tolerate LGBT people. (t · c) buidhe 01:11, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Evaluation of the article - Peer Review Feedback

[edit]

The article offers a relatively thorough overview of LGBT migration in different regions. It not only discusses the migration itself, but also sociopolitical contexts that lead to their migration. The information is presented in a neutral way without downplaying the human rights abuses. The statements are well supported by up-to-date scholarly research. However, the article still has room for improvement. It is a little bit abrupt to start the main sections with the LGBT migration in different regions. It would be helpful to have a separate section that provides some background to the topic, such as the historical development, common reasons for migration, and patterns of migration etc. In addition, the article will benefit from including more relevant images. Evaluation of the article

[edit]

On balance, this article is very insightful. However, I would like to say that this article is largely focused on policy issues. LGBT migration is by no means confined to policy issues. In my opinion, this article lacks discussion about philosophical, cultural, social, and psychological aspects of the problem. Leonid Libenzon (talk) 01:49, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
