No information from the CCHT link has been put into the body of the article in the form of citations because it has not yet been verified for 100% accuracy by the Victoria County History project for Cumbria. Hanging hyphens

@Bmcln1: Please see Hyphen#Suspended hyphens "For example, nineteenth-century and twentieth-century may be written as nineteenth- and twentieth-century. This usage is now common in English and specifically recommended in some style guides." One such guide is Wikipedia's MoS, which days "Use a hanging hyphen when two compound modifiers are separated (two- and three-digit numbers; a ten-car or -truck convoy;" The change I made was exactly in accordance with the MoS.
