Ottoman Sack of 1397

[edit]

According to Ostrogorsky citing Zakythinos, Athens was temporarily occupied by the Turks, who then sacked Argos before defeating the Despot of the Morea and plundering the Peloponnese. This occured in 1397, not 1396 as originally stated in the article, following the German article. It does not specify whether the Turks actually took the castle of Larisa or just sacked the town below. My suspicion is that latter, because if they had successfully taken the castle, it is likely they would have garrisoned it and taken over from the Venetians at this point, instead of waiting another century-and-a-half. So I have removed the reference to Larisa being "taken" by the Turks at this point. --Jpbrenna (talk) 15:35, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
