[edit]

Can someone please read WP:MSH? It's Plot synopsis, not Plot Synopsis. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:47, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the synopsis not capitalised? the s i mean.--Xxhopingtearsxx 02:48, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please read WP:MSH, also WP:DASH and WP:CONTEXT. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:52, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The toy store was named Toy Safari, that's why the employee had a TS badge. It may have been a Tourette's reference as well, however, this is not the place for speculation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.250.75.23 (talk) 02:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Emmy comment is also speculation. It could be a reference to an actual news program winning an award for what the creators view as a dumb reason, or it could just be put in as a joke or to make fun of the Emmys in general. The episode that won the emmy didn't win because it said "horrible" things, but rather for its style and popularity. Mac OS X 04:14, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cartmans Grandma

[edit]

in the episode while talking to chris hanson he says his grandmother is dead, then he accidently blurts out (this being him accidently telling the truth) "thats not true my grandma's fine" That is inaccurate though because in the episode Cartmanland she is dead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.166.51.76 (talk) 20:18, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

People normally have two Grandmothers. Since We don't know who the father is (or mother, as Mrs. Cartman is an intersexed person), it is uncertain whether Cartman himself has found since then his true mom, and it just hasn't been revealed to the viewers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.106.107.192 (talk) 23:37, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yes i took that into account but he has obviously has not because there would have been an episode about that as it is a major part of his life —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.166.51.76 (talk) 01:15, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tourette syndrome support group

[edit]
Unfortunately at the moment Principal Victoria is meeting with the head of the Tourette Syndrome Association,[citation needed] who is insulted that Kyle would accuse people with Tourette syndrome of faking and takes him to a local support group for kids with the disorder.

Can someone please verify that the episode specifically referred to the head of the Tourette Syndrome Association (Judit Ungar) or whether the episode merely mentioned some generic Tourette syndrome support group? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:15, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Principal Victoria said the guy was from the "Tourettes Tolerance and Understanding Foundation."--70.253.203.15 14:53, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I suspected some such thing; thanks for fixing it. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:01, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Headings

[edit]

Is there any particular reason that editors of this article don't understand capitalization of section headings per WP:MSH? I've fixed it quite a few times now. Only the first word and proper nouns are capitalized. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:29, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia

[edit]

Why are the Wikinazis deleting the interesting trivia sections? I understand the speculative trivia should be removed, but bits that ARE in the episode and need no other proof besides that should remain in the article. Some trivia can allow people to go back and watch the episode to catch little easter eggs that make the show so interesting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.126.197.212 (talk) 17:10, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you, good trivia is interesting and can make rewatching episodes rewarding. However, it makes for a much better article if trivia can be smoothly worked into the main synopsis. Wikipedia is not a trivia site, it is an encyclopedia. There are plenty of fansites where you can find irrelevant but fun trivia; keep only the relevant stuff here. And yes, I know "relevant" is very subjective. Professor Chaos 22:00, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's the general satire?

[edit]

Or is there any? Is the general idea of the episode satirizing Tourettes Guy or some other instance of Tourettes as entertainment, or all of them at once? I know Tourettes Guy isn't the hugest thing to satirize, but Cartman can be seen as that guy and this episode an attack that he doesn't actually have Tourettes (which is the belief of pretty much everyone who hates that website, and a lot of those who like it). I'd have to say that they do a pretty sensitive job spreading the message that Tourettes isn't a joke and that people pretending to have it that don't should get what they deserve. I know the TSA had concerns over this episode, and I haven't heard any comments post-airing, but I think this episode should be to their liking. I know the second, kind of out-of-the-blue satire is of Chris Hansen and internet predators. I just can't figure out why. Mac OS X 20:08, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously, what's with all the speculative trivia?

[edit]

This article is particularly rife with speculative statements such as "might be" "could be", "almost certainly is" and pointless trivia. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia for facts which can be referenced, and not for peoples' speculations on what a particular joke "might" be about - there are hundreds of forums and sites all over the net for this kind of thing, however unfortunately this is not the place for them. Please be a bit more considerate for the rules of Wikipedia, because I know nobody likes when their entries are deleted after they go to the trouble of writing them out, but if they don't follow the guidelines I'm afraid that's what has to happen. If you're unsure on why your entry may not be allowed, have a look here for Wikipedia's guidelines for writing on TV shows, and Wikipedia:No original research for general policy on original research in Wikipedia. peace :)Warchef 21:26, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What does it remind you of?

[edit]

Cartman in a smoking jacket/gown serving apple juice as scotch to Kyle boasting about his plans coming to fruition is reminiscent of some movie I can't put my finger on!

Can you guys tell me what scene is this one a parody of?

The only thing that comes to my mind is in The Lost World: Jurassic Park when Hammond convinces Malcolm to go to Isla Sorna. But Hammond wasn't pure evil like Cartman (though, it sounds like he was in the original book). And sign your statements. Mac OS X 01:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it was more reminisent of how Hugh Hefner dresses, but, in any case, it's pure speculation. Which DOESN'T deserve mention in the article.--Swellman 01:46, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It reminded me of a movie, also, but I can't think which one. Hammond wasn't evil, even in the book, just overeager; and it's not him. I think the reason I can't pin it down is that he's an amalgamation of dozens of generic villains who invite the hero into their lair/office and offer them a drink and tell them to be comfortable as they confidently explain their plan that it's far to late for the hero to thwart at this time or whatever. It's happened in countless movies, and I'm sure Matt and Trey have seen them all. Professor Chaos 22:04, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It might be from The Most Dangerous Game? (Short story by Richard Connel.) Jargon Felix McScruffy (talk) 21:46, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-airing to airing reaction?

[edit]

I have found here about the TSAs reaction to the episode, saying that it was "false about the corphilia, but helped spread awareness of the Tourette Syndrome" or something. Should we keep the TSA's pre-airing reaction or get rid of it for the actual post-reaction?

Thanks, --Imhungry 22:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I say combine them both. Mention the beforehand thoughts leading up to the episode, and then tell about their official statement. --Swellman 23:19, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Conradt reference

[edit]

"clearly implying that Chris Hansen and Dateline deliberately murdered him in revenge for his failure to appear"

I don't believe this to be correct. Hansen didn't use air quotes here -- he used them a few seconds later when talking about what Cartman might do to himself. Put another way, the implication of murder was about murdering Cartman, not about Conradt. 63.163.61.3 14:04, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When the pedophiles march into the room and find they're on Dateline, they start shooting themselves in the head. Hansen observes this, and says "Aw, not again!". We can assume he was applying to Conradt when he said this; and since he had nothing to do with the mass suicide, the again would mean that the other time he had nothing to do with it either.

As the poster above me said, the talk he has with Cartman implies he might kill Cartman, but implies nothing whatsoever on Conradt. 68.106.107.192 03:20, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, it was an implied thread against Cartmen when Hanson said (with the finger quotes) "be ashame if we had to track you down and you ....''Shot yourself''", This is meant for Cartmen to infer that Conradt was deliberately murdered by Dateline, it was indeed meant as a threat but doesn't necessarily mean Dateline did the deed that was implied just that Hanson wanted Cartmen to believe that they did. With that said I can't believe I'm getting technical over a southpark episode :) ▪◦▪≡ЅiREX≡Talk 03:50, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From the way, they show Henson "rehearsing" the "I'm Chris Henson" line, I think what the producers were trying to do was to make fun of the way Henson talks and emphasizes his words. They make him imply that Dateline killed the guy, when in truth the way he spoke just made it seem like he was implying they committed murder. I mean, he was visibly upset when the Pedophiles were killing themselves. AznWarlord 10:42, 21 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Cartmans mom/dad

[edit]

I thought Cartmans "mom" was his dad, since she is an intersexual and it's unknown whether Cartman has a mom or not?--Eikern 14:43, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was in one episode and has never been mentioned since. Cartman's mom is just Cartman's mom. —Angr 23:13, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

shot versus killed himself

[edit]

Hansen said "shot himself" not "killed himself." That's actually what makes it funny because cartman subsequently looks down, implying that he had "shot himself". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.174.226.5 (talk) 15:51, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

'Goofs' sections are against Wikipedia policy!

[edit]

Ok, 2 reasons why the goof section here should be removed:

1) It's against Wikipedia policy. The Wikipedia guide to writing articles about TV shows clearly lists, in its THINGS TO AVOID section:

  • Technical errors and continuity issues ("bloopers" or "goofs")

"Unsourced sections about technical errors or continuity issues should generally be avoided. If there is a major mistake that is discussed by a reliable source it can become a part of the production section."

so, while imdb or lots of other sites are a very good place for submitting and presenting this information, Wikipedia is not.

2) There is no continuity in South Park. Matt and Trey have mentioned lots of times how they hate cartoon shows that have continuity, and that the events of one episode don't influence those of another. should we also write into the articles when kenny comes back to life even when he aparently died in a previous episode? or that in one show the kids like baseball and in another they don't? it's just the nature of the show, and bringing it up all the time is a non-issue and pretty dull, if you ask me.Warchef 18:12, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Mr. Warchef. In fact, why stop there? Let's take out the plot, credits, any images, and basically anything that the reader may find interesting, noteworthy, or otherwise worth visiting Wikipedia. This isn't IMDb, people! We don't want people to visit this site! Mac OS X 09:40, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See, I agreed with you up until the first full stop, Mac. It doesn't matter if it's an "interesting read", it's unencyclopedic. ≈ The Haunted Angel 10:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Macosx please don't make straw man arguments▪◦▪≡ЅiREX≡Talk 11:07, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Macosx, I understand how you may be frustrated by some Wikipedia policies, I know they can seem anal and arbitrary, but for the most part the people who decided upon them did so for good reasons, not to bug you. Also, unfortunately, lowly plebs such as myself don't get to make Wikipedia policies, we just follow them when we can, and try to point out in talk pages when they're not being followed, so unfortunately i think your aggression is a tad misplaced (don't worry, i'll live with it :) ). If you feel passionately about including 'Goofs' sections in Wikipedia articles, i would suggest that a more constructive use of your time and energies (rather than leaving sarcastic messages on talk pages) would be to bring up the issue at Wikipedia talk:Television episodes. if you wish to see what a really good TV episode page is, then check out Cape Feare, which received a Featured Article status - it's informative, interesting, and all of the things you mentioned, AND it follows all of wikipedia's guidelines and policies (i.e. it's encylcopedic). Oh that the South Park pages could be as good as this! peace. Warchef 16:23, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Animation

[edit]

Hey, is it more or is the animation less "computer-y" (i know, not a word), than prior recent seasons. What's the deal with that? Arthurian Legend 22:17, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Same thing happened with the Simpsons and basically any other cartoon that has been on the air prior to 2000 and after.

It is indeed a derogatory term for Jew, I don't know where it comes from. It is silly to censor any words, I think. There's no such thing as a good or bad word, just good or bad meanings, and a censored word still retains its meaning and it's easy to be offensive without using any "bad" words. Professor Chaos 01:44, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did they use the word "c*nt" in the episode, just out of curiosity? —Preceding unsigned comment added by JustN5:12 (talkcontribs) 01:00, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fuck should be uncensored

[edit]

Seriously, if you don't want to hear the words, don't watch the show. It should be stupid for them to censor fuck given this is a mature show!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.191.64.130 (talk) 03:26, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You think your irrelevant slur on wikipedia is going to change the show? Besides, the network decides what to censor, and more "mature" shows get censored. Besides, there is already enough uncensored swearing on television for all of us, so a bit of censorship doesnt make all that much difference. :) - Redmess (talk) 23:04, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title explanation probably wrong

[edit]

The title "Le Petit Tourette" is more likely a reference to "Le Petomane", a real-life Frenchman who had a music hall act which consisted of him farting on demand, doing impressions with farts, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.188.147.34 (talk) 15:57, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I find that highly unlikely. And since both that and the "Le Petit Mort" hypothesis are unsourced and pure OR speculation, I am removing both theories until sources from the creators can be found that verify what they were suggesting. -- Captain Infinity (talk) 17:50, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural references

[edit]

Please cite the following before adding to the article;

  • Near the beginning of the episode, while talking to a Toy Safari employee, Thomas' mother can be seen holding a copy of the video game Ōkami. The cover of the games Diablo II and StarCraft: Brood War can also be seen on a display.

Episode title reference?

[edit]

There's an anime called Le Portrait de Petit Cossette. Cossette/Tourette, sounds pretty similar. Given that the creators of the show seem to be quite anime-obsessed - think "Princess Kenny", for example - I kinda doubt it's a coincidence. Also, my French knowledge is very basic but I think it's la tourette in French and not le tourette, similar to the mistake of the anime title which should be "Petite Cossette". Any proof/disproof/thoughts? -- Sora. (77.11.10.84 (talk) 17:15, 9 May 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Whether the correct French is la or le is not our (Wikipedia) matter: the episode title used le. I don't see the relevance of Cossette and Tourette sounding similar; we base article decisions here on reliable sources, not our own knowledge of languages, and the creators of the show named it what they named it. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:05, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant is that they may have copied the "wrong" French from the anime. Episode titles like this - not just in SP - are quite often puns/references to other titles/quotes/etc. -- Sora. (77.11.10.84 (talk) 09:49, 10 May 2015 (UTC))[reply]
