Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The logo says Libyan Airlines, the air-stewerdesses say Libyan Airlines, Airbus's website called it Libyan Airlines when they ordered the A350s, Tripoli Airport calls it Libyan Airlines... I think the title needs to be changed. Jaw101ie 14:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have directed the request to move Libyan Airways destinations to Libyan Airlines destinations here. Please discuss both requests together. --Stemonitis 15:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Unsure. The argument given in WP:RM is that the correct new name is Libyan Airlines, which seems to completely misunderstand WP:NC. I tried a couple of google searches; "Libyan Airways" Airbus got more hits than "Libyan Airlines" Airbus, three times as many in fact. The second (which I did first in fact) didn't produce the page where Airbus's website called it Libyan Airlines when they ordered the A350s. At the very least, the proposer should give some links as evidence that the new name is now the common name. It may well be, but my guess is that this nomination is premature, and based on the common mistake that every time officialdom decrees that something is officially renamed, the relevant article should automatically be renamed too. English doesn't work that way, and neither does English Wikipedia. Andrewa 10:57, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sure Here are some relatively reliable links. I don't think counting Google hits is very conclusive. Also, I do agree that the name change is not 100% certain but, I was the one who requested a change to Libyan Airways, and the new name is far more likely to be Libyan Airlines as the following links will show. To put it simply, Libyan Airways is completely wrong, it is either Libyan Airlines, or Libyan Arab Airlines.

Also as I've already written, (forgive my candour, yes these are not official) I've been to Tripoli airport several times and I've travelled on the airline four times in the last year. Their logos in the airport and the name used by their cabin staff is Libyan Airlines. Please continue with the page name change. Jaw101ie 12:50, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed from Libyan Airways to Libyan Airlines as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 08:31, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Anyone with the patience, feel free to translate this page and put parts of it into the article. It is a good history of the airline in Arabic [1]. Jaw101ie (talk) 21:19, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Relaunch of flight operations

[edit]

Has Libyan Airlines relaunched flight operations so far? According to the destination list at Tripoli International Airport, a broad range of destinations is offered. On the other hand, the website of Libyan Airlines is still down, and flightstats.com does not list any flights out of the airport. For example, today (27 November), there seem to have been just three departures: 2x Tunis Air to Tunis, and EgyptAir to Cairo. The Royal Jordanian flight to Amman has been cancelled.

So, who can give reliable sources, if neessary updating the "As a consequence of the Libyan civil war [...], all flight operations with Libyan Airlines were terminated on 17 March 2011" ending of the history section. --AdAstra reloaded (talk) 18:06, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Number of A330s in fleet

[edit]

Please note that, so far, I have reverted the edits made by Airbus A330-343X lover ([2], [3], [4]). Airbus A330-343X lover has a great opportunity here to explain their reasoning fo introducing unsourced changes into the article.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:47, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, Wait a second, I actually did forgot to add a citing on the grid, but it is actually true, Libyan Airlines currently have two Airbus A330-200 aircrafts, with two more to be delivered in 2014. One of the A330s, 5A-LAS, was damaged during the fight at Tripoli International Airport and stored for repair. Information is true, but I forgot to cite that, I really apologize for that.--Airbus A330-343X lover (talk) 22:05, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Airbus A330-343X lover: Thnaks for understanding my comment. The matter here is that only one A330 appears in the source supporting the fleet table. We can wait until the the website the fleet information is taken from is updated.--Jetstreamer Talk 22:16, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I also apologize for misunderstanding, and thank you for your advices to me. I will fix that issue later--Airbus A330-343X lover (talk) 22:41, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Flight 1103 on 22 Dec 1992

[edit]

"The official government story was that it had collided with a Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 of the Libyan Air Force over Tripoli."
There is now suspicion that something more sinister actually happened, see here. This should be mentioned in the main article. Gentleman wiki (talk) 20:35, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The source you provide is used in Libyan Arab Airlines Flight 1103. Details for this particular flight should be covered there, not here.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:07, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hijackings/LAA flight from Zurich to Tripoli

Downgrade on A350 order

[edit]

I recently added the info that the airlines' management decided to downgrade the order of A350 to A320:

However, in July 2017, CEO Fathi Al-Shatti expressed the need to downgrade the A350 orders and switch for A320s and A321s, admitting that «demand was heavily impacted by the war in 2011». "Libyan Airlines may seek to switch A350 order for A320s or A321s". Centreforaviation.com. 23 June 2017. Retrieved 15 July 2017.

This revision was undone with the comment: "No orders whatsoever". The sentence above does not mention an "order whatsoever", but a critical situation that's leading the management to revise its air fleet strategy and renegotiate deals with its providers. Can anyone explain why this sourced info should not be here, because it sure sounds like a valuable piece of info to understand the company's health? Tx. --Qwacker (talk) 15:15, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree with you, it is valuable information. Gentleman wiki (talk) 05:19, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
