Number of ministries
[edit]Note that Wood has three instead of one ministries (as in Wilson) for both Fraser and Muldoon. Hugo999 (talk) 10:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Ministries or cabinets?
[edit]This page talks uses the word 'ministries' where I would use the word 'cabinets.' Surely there's going to be confusion with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry for the Environment, etc? Stuartyeates (talk) 00:58, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- I've done a lot of work sorting through the early parliamentary history of NZ and can confirm that early texts only ever talk of Ministries. Maybe the term just stuck? Certainly, standard works like Wilson in his Parliamentary History of New Zealand still use Ministry. So whilst 'Cabinet' might well be more appropriate for other countries, 'Ministries' is the correct term for NZ. Schwede66 03:26, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- 'Ministries' may be the correct term in the context of the early parliamentary history of NZ, but I'm a kiwi and I've never heard the term used in this way. When I initially clicked on the link I thought 'List of New Zealand ministries' was going to be a list of religious groups or figures. When I saw it was government related I thought it was going to track the name changes of Te Puni Kōkiri etc. Stuartyeates (talk) 21:31, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- The problem is that the word "ministry" has a different meaning to the general public. When I first saw mention of this discussion I thought it would be a list of government departments, i.e. Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, etc. If you're writing something for the general public to read I'd think "governments" would be a less ambiguous term. - I've started adding links to key people, primarily from List of Prime Ministers of New Zealand. I think maybe there needs to be an explanation of why some 'ministries' are on this list but not on that. Stuartyeates (talk) 03:57, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has the category Category:Cabinet ministries for these ministries eg Australia Hugo999 (talk) 23:15, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
Headings
[edit]Hazhk, headings should not contain wikilinks. I suggest you introduce a line of prose under each heading to include the relevant link instead. Schwede66 01:17, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
- Good point. I'll make that change. --Hazhk (talk) 01:22, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
