Merge

[edit]

I think it would be a good idea to merge some characters in a new "Secondary Characters" page Chaoshi (talk) 14:54, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, you shouldn't be making new pages. None of the characters in this series have enough verifiable sources referenced on their respective pages to qualify for their own pages under WP:Notability I would suggest merging them all into this page then doing a serious reformat, summary, and referencing. For more information, please refer to WP:MOS-AM --Kraftlos (talk) 10:31, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that at least the main characters should have their own page, infact I liked the inefficiant system we had before the mass merging best, hopefully I can get somebody to help me fix it now. Popun (talk) 22:20, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't about efficiency, its about policy. None of the characters have any independent coverage and thus don't satisfy WP:N. You can't write an article based on primary sources, Wikipedia is not a plot summary site --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 20:32, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mass Merge

In an effort to clean up these Sgt. Frog pages, I'm proposing a mass merger of all these articles. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about this series, so if I could get help in deciding what should be salvaged, that would be much appreciated. Questions, comments, objections? --Kraftlos (talk) 09:18, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, that's 46 non-notable character pages that need to be merged. The multiple merge template will only hold 20.--Kraftlos (talk) 09:58, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, the wikipedia articles for this anime are screwed up as it is. Chaoshi (talk) 18:08, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

So I'm about halfway through merging the characters into this page. What I'm noticing is that a lot of these character descriptions are actually excessively detailed plot summaries. What I would like to do (or see other editors do) is:

  • Rewrite and condense the descriptions to minimize plot summary and stick to the description of the character itself.
  • I propose splitting off a movie-character list and/or a Keroro Land character list, and keep this list limited to the characters in the original work.
  • Removing descriptions of characters that play very minor roles and limit the list to minor characters.
  • Reference everything... as it stands there are no references.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the series, so I can only edit it from a copy point-of-view. As far as content, I'm only able to work with what's on the page. Comments? Questions? --Kraftlos (talk) 21:55, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In principle, this seems reasonable. A few comments though:
  • If the movie and Kerero Land's characters are to be split, consider merging the specific charaters' content into the movies' and Keroro Land's articles, as have very little content themselves. Alternatively (recommended), keep them here, but do not split the characters according to series: Using "protagonists", "antagonists" and "supporting characters" as H2 headers gives a very good and seamless integration of characters over multiple series and movies.
  • I agree with removing very minor characters (though you can consider keeping the more important ones in a single section, see List of Tokyo Mew Mew characters#Minor characters).
  • I also recommend adding a section(s) about major characters and/or groups in this article: The list should not be limited to minor characters, but should include the main character (groups) as well: per WP:SS every section which has a sub-article should be about 2× the daughter articles' lead.
Regards, and good luck! G.A.S 04:58, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that

[edit]

It's pointless to merge EVERY SINGLE character into one article. At least give the main characters their own articles or maybe just Keroro or his Platoon.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.1.161.132 (talk)

Characters do not deserve separate article by virtue of being main characters. Sometimes characters are notable enough and have enough third-party content to justify an article, however this is judged on a case-by-case basis. There is a consensus within Wikiproject Anime and Manga that anime articles that have lots of character pages with little content should be merged into one concise and well-organized list rather than keeping lots of little pages that do not meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. For more detailed treatment of this subject please see WP:N. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. --kraftlos (talk) 04:33, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whoa whoa, my good sir but each of the main characters of this show have PLENTY information. Have you seen the japanese wikipedia articles for them? Full of information about the character. Merging this wasn't a very good idea, infact it just made it more confusing, especially for people who might be new to the show.Zatsuyou (talk) 23:49, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The "information" may have been there, but didn't discuss these characters in a real-world frame. It merely gave extensive plot summaries without any references to third-party sources. Wikipedia is not the place to collect plot summaries, it is intended to give an encyclopedic overview of a given topic. None of the character articles that have been merged were notable topics and thus didn't belong under their own articles.
With regard to accessibility, this is the whole point to these merges. Once this unnecessarily forked content is merged, an extensive cleanup and summarization will be in order (as detailed in the above section); then and only then will the article be close to meeting wikipedia's B-class assessment criteria. --Kraftlos (talk) 08:07, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problems

[edit]

Since when was Zoruru "killed and became a cyborg"? I'm sure that was not stated at all in the manga or the anime. There's a difference between a fanfiction, and what Mine Yoshizaki has in mind.

I also noticed a couple of other things that seemed slightly off, and I'm probably not the only one who's found them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.252.76.202 (talk) 20:26, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone give a better detail of these charaters and pictures of who they are, so that we can have a better meaning of who these charaters are. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Letmeseeplz (talkcontribs) 23:59, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It IS possible not to be a member of wiki and still edit things. It's possible that someone did just that. Lol. I just fixed pokopenians to pekoponians. uncivil remark removed —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.20.90.107 (talkcontribs)

To answer these questions. This is an amalgamation of what used to be about 30 Sgt. Frog articles. These articles were poorly maintained and contained a ton of poorly written plot summaries. I don't think we've had anyone familiar with the series do any major edits to the article, so if anything here is in error feel free to fix it.
Unfortunately, Wikipedia's content policies do not allow us to place pictures next to every character as it would constitute a copyright violation. Because the English Wikipedia allows for fair-use images on a limited basis, Wikiproject Anime has decided that it is appropriate for these lists to have one or two low-resolution photos to illustrate character lists, however it is preferable to have group pictures so we can get the most out of these photos.
The goal here is to give a general overview of the characters of Sgt. Frog so the average reader can understand the work. We are not trying to accumulate an exhaustive list of all characters, nor are we trying to give exhaustive details of every character listed. If you are looking for a more detailed treatment of this topic, you might search for one of a number of Sgt. Frog fan sites out there such as the Keroro Wiki. Feel free to ask here if you have any more questions, I've been working on this list for a while and will try to respond as quickly as possible. And all of you are welcome to continue helping us improve this article. Anyone can edit! --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 05:22, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page format

[edit]

Anybody else agrees that the format of this page is better in my revision than Andromeda's revision? I admit we have been edit warring over the past several days, but this is because the following issues are not addressed:

  • The TOC is too long. Each character was placed in its own section, which in my opinion is completely unnecessary.
  • The Nihongo template is included in the section heading.
  • I also attempted to address the readability issue in this diff, following the format in the corresponding Japanese page.

kazu (talk) 13:40, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • With a list format, the character's name is barely seen and easily missed. The list it's confusing and hard to navigate.
  • The TOC is useful this way. You can find the character you want quite easily.
  • The Nihongo template can be edited out the heading, that's easy.
  • Other character lists use this format, and I find it quite useful.

Andromeda (talk) 15:08, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's why I applied the JA-WP's indent format; so that the individual characters can easily be seen running on the left side.
  • Look at any other character list page. They're not like that. Everything is on the TOC.
  • Then why is it still there?
  • Specify.
kazu (talk) 12:57, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is not JA-WP, and the characters were not seen. It was extremely difficult to see their names with the same font size as the rest of the text!
  • I did. There's a lot of character pages that use sections.
  • Because I had no time to do it so far, perhaps?
  • Browse around.
Anyway, you seem to be the only one who has a problem with it.
