Omicron Alpha Tau

[edit]

There is a discrepancy regarding how many of Omicron Alpha Tau's chapters merged into Tau Delta Phi. As of August 1, 2022, the ΟΑΤ list of chapters notes "at least two" merging, forming entirely new chapters, including Cornell and Rutgers. The NYU chapter may have joined with the existing Tau Delta Phi chapter there. But other references note there may have been a fourth. Marquette was mentioned, but I didn't find a record of creation of a Tau Delta Phi chapter there. Jax MN (talk) 22:51, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Polytechnic University

[edit]

Concerning the Delta Mu chapter, linked to Polytechnic University. On the national website, it notes, cryptically, that this is a "combined chapter". This would lead me to believe it was meant to be sort of a city-wide chapter, somewhere near a pre-existing Polytech school. Maybe combining chapters? I made an assumption on the table that it was linked to a Polytechnic University in Lakeland, Florida, but this was only because of adjacency to other nearby Tau Delt schools, and the fact that that university sometimes used that name. Was this the correct school? Or should we reflect a different location? Jax MN (talk) 20:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The correct institution appears to be the Polytechnic University that was in Brooklyn. It was known as the Polytechnic Institute of New York University after it affiliated with New York University. Gamma and Delta Delta both went dormant around the time that the two campuses merged. This fits the fraternity's listing of this as a combined chapter. When the two schools actually merged, it looks like the chapter either went dormant or returned to the Gamma name. Certainly, it is fair to say that the school went dormant at that time. It would be clearer if the dates in the Almanac were more specific but the Wikipedia article New York University Tandon School of Engineering was helpful. I went go ahead and made the correction to the article and attempted to explain this in efn. Rublamb (talk) 22:36, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
