New section
[edit]Thinking about adding a section for the 20th century singles that ranks them by their certified singles, since they came out during the physical age and most of the artists haven't been streamed enough to distort the list we'd have a individual section of the highest certified singles from that period Never17 (talk) 18:38, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

- For the Highest Certified Singles section, a idea is that editors can use that as a reference on the individual pages for the Songs. So any song included there, can have the sales figure listed with "It's One of the Best Selling Songs of all time". For Example, Bohemian Rhapsody on it's page gets listed as "It's sold over 15 million copies worldwide and is one of the best selling singles of all time". Never17 (talk) 18:13, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Careless whisper by Wham got certified 7 times platinum by Riaa. It has 11 millions certified sales worldwide. Can you add to the list please? 91.140.29.102 (talk) 14:36, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm quite happy with how the singles are organized at the moment, but I was wondering about the necessity/accuracy of having a "Highest-certified singles" and a "Best-selling digital singles" list: I would keep for sure a list for singles sold mainly in the physical format (which would otherwise mostly disappear if put together with more modern singles), but I would have just another list, called "Most successful multi-format singles" or something like that.
- My reasoning is that, in the Highest-certified list, at present there are many singles, whose certifications use also streaming-equivalent-tracks, and exactly the same happens with the "Best-selling digital singles". Just a few examples:
- - All I Want For Christmas Is You has not even sold in the US 4 million downloaded copies and not many physical copies, so at least 10 million "copies" of its 16x platinum RIAA certification come from streaming-equivalent-tracks
- - in the US I Will Always Love You sold less than 5 million physical copies and a little more of 2 million downloaded copies, before the music market shifted to streaming, so roughly 3 million "copies" of the 10 million copies of its Diamond RIAA certification come from streaming-equivalent-tracks
- - Shape of you has sold nearly to zero physical copies and not even 3 million downloaded copies in the US, where it is certified by RIAA for 13 million copies (so 10 million "copies" must come from streaming-equivalent-tracks and probably globally at least 30 million of its more than 40 million copies come from streaming-equivalent-tracks)
- - Sunflower is certified by RIAA for 20 million copies in the US and it stands now globally at more than 28 million certified copies; I don't see why we should use its initial and -at this point- outdated Ifpi numbers of 13.4 million copies+streaming-equivalent-tracks globally, that have since grown quite a bit (same for Radioactive, Old Town Road, Thinking Out Loud...)
- For all these reasons, I would put the two lists "Highest-certified singles" and "Best-selling digital singles" in one longer list; I don't see why some singles should appear in the first one, and some in the other one, as the all the highest ranking are there thanks to streaming-equivalent-tracks, downloaded copies and in some cases physical copies (as I said before, I completely agree on the decision of having a separate "physical singles" list for older songs).
- Anyway, I appreciate the modernization of this page compared to some yeas ago. 93.34.51.118 (talk) 02:38, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- That would probably work, but we'd need a consensus Never17 (talk) 08:14, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

Bohemian Rhapsody is not there, i am just helping nothing else. AnmollovesMercury (talk) 10:39, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: It is present in the "Highest-certified singles" section. Liu1126 (talk) 16:30, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Most-requested song
[edit]Though technically not typically released as a Single (in particular, the USA or UK), the song "Stairway to Heaven" is mentioned in its article as being the "most-requested song on FM radio stations in the United States at the time, despite never having been commercially released as a single in the US." Somehow it seems like it deserves a mention in this article, as even did "White Christmas". Misty MH (talk) 06:52, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Misty MH. Hardly no because this is about the best-selling singles, and no the most requested songs. --Apoxyomenus (talk) 15:34, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
In the Summertime
[edit]The lead for "In the Summertime" says "It became one of the best-selling singles of all-time, and is the biggest-selling single of all-time by a British band, eventually selling 30 million copies.[1][2][3]" but I don't see it on this page. Does it need adding, or has it dropped off the list? Stronach (talk) 13:57, 28 December 2024 (UTC) Stronach (talk) 13:57, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
