Seeing as there seems to be almost no one here and this page wasn't edited in over 1 year, it'll probably be me who ends up fixing this. But just in case someone beats me to it, I put the issue there, that the paragraph deserves to be in its own article about the Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party. English names or Bhutanese names?

[edit]

Tagging @Vif12vf: and @Aréat:. So, there was a little discussion on whether to translate the names of the pages for political parties, and links to them. Vif12vf said "I think not translating a party's name should only be acceptable for countries where english is often mixed with local languages. Such however is not the case with Bhutan and thus i think the party name should be translated" on Bhutan United Party's talk page. Well, that bolded statement is simply not true. In Bhutan, English in pretty much widely spoken, and understood by locals, along with their mother tongue. The state newspaper Kuensel rarely, if ever, translates the names of political parties to English. It mostly uses initialisms of the romanisations of the party names in Dzongkha. It's also true of most of the English newspapers of Bhutanese origin, I can't say anything about papers based outside Bhutan. So, the party names shouldn't be translated and should be moved to their local names. I hope we can achieve consensus on it. Thanks. TryKid (talk) 20:48, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really see the point of using non english party names on the english wiki, to be honest. Its name is Bhutan United Party in english, so we use it. Why should we not translate it and use Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa ?--Aréat (talk) 20:55, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Aréat:. Convention, I guess. For example, you can see Bharatiya Janata Party. The name translated to roughly Indian People's Party. But no one, literally no one translates it. I don't understand why this needs to be translated. Party names are just that. Names. Names don't need to be translated. TryKid (talk) 23:53, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
A party name isn't just a name, it has meaning. Socialist, liberal, national, etc, all these words are importants. Some aren't translated there, but they're the exception.--Aréat (talk) 00:02, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Meaning and ideology can be described adequately in the article space. Page name should be for names. I mean, every party in the subcontinent doesn't get translated, except for some Bhutanese ones? Why? Bhutanese articles need to be consistent with articles of neighboring countries that are culturally close. I simply don't get why you want English names for a Bhutanese party that doesn't have an English name. On http://ecb.bt, you can see some party charters written in English. Not a single place where they mention their English names. Names aren't translated in official English documents. They don't need to be translated here. TryKid (talk) 01:14, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Aréat:. Forgot to ping in original message sorry. TryKid (talk) 01:15, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
