Re-org + expansion
[edit]Just flagging some planned reorganization of this page as I expand it with more information on additional works, sourced from Dan Flavin: The Complete Lights published in 2004. I might scrap the geographic organization for the majority of works and group them generally by medium & year, with the exception of site-specific/permanent installations. Any suggestions/comments welcome before I get started? --19h00s (talk) 21:35, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
Before I go any further, any issues with converting from plain lists to a table? Akin to this:
Title | Year | Medium | Dimensions | Edition size | No. of works fabricated | 2004 CR no. | Public collection(s) | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
icon II (the mystery) (to John Reeves) | 1961 | Oil on cold acrylic gesso on Masonite and pine, porcelain receptacle, pull chain, and amber "Firelogs Vacuum" incandescent bulb | 25 1/8 × 25 1/8 × 4 5/8 in (63.8 × 63.8 × 11.9 cm) | 1 | 1 | 2 |

List of works by Dan Flavin → List of light sculptures by Dan Flavin – This article lists light sculptures by Dan Flavin and does not include any works on paper, paintings, or sculptures that don't utilize lights. The catalogue raisonné of Flavin's work published in 2004 only includes light sculptures. Requesting move for accuracy. Not sure what would be the clearer title - "List of light sculptures..." or "List of light works..." 19h00s (talk) 16:04, 8 September 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Comment Do we really need this article? Essentially orphaned, typically gets less than 5 hits a day. Nothing on this list is individually notable. Seems a little WP:TOOMUCH. 162 etc. (talk) 05:07, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Strong disagree. I didn't create this list, but this is an incredibly notable artist, and many of the individual listings are in fact very notable - at least one has its own article, many of the other listings are individually referenced in other articles. Would gently suggest a quick Google of Flavin to get a sense of his notability. 19h00s (talk) 13:34, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not arguing the notability of Flavin. I'm arguing the notability of 230 kB of list that nothing links to and nobody reads. 162 etc. (talk) 15:10, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Agree to disagree on that front. Not everything worth having on here is going to be popular to read. 19h00s (talk) 16:29, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
