Bio info

Her current husband is not her first, or probably the father of her children. This might be considered pertinent to the article in that he was also an orthopedic surgeon. They toured Australia together, which I learned by searching, but I wasn't able to view the entire article, so I don't have his name or details. Also, I saw an indication that she was Mormon (LDS), rather than Seventh Day Adventist. If so, this should be corrected. I am neither, but there is a big difference, so... Rags, do you have any reliable sources for these things? -- Brangifer (talk) 05:49, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your interest! This is a very interesting person/physician. I was not familiar with her at all, so I searched Duckduckgo, but I'm using my phone, so I'm basicly reading the headers of the hits, many of which I can't open. Do a search (maybe Google, though I don't use it any more), and you will have no problem finding the info to which I refer. Do not misunderstand me, I am not disrespecting the lady. What little I know of her impresses me mightily. Rags (talk) 23:05, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
Since part of your original comment is a potential BLP violation, I'm going to hat this thread until you provide reliable sources for the information. -- Brangifer (talk) 03:33, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
I don't understand your objection, and I certainly don't agree that there is ANY violation of BLP policy. If you conceal my comment, then it is impossible for anyone who has additional information to contribute to the article, or even to be aware that further information is desired. I understand your concern for offending Dr. Day, but your concern on this occasion is totally unwarranted. I have nothing but respect for the woman, and the more I research her, the more I respect her.
As a young woman, she worked for three years in Oregon as a dental hygeinist. During this period she was married for the first time. Her second husband was one of her med school profs. She worked 100 hours a wk as a resident in surgery at SF Gen. Hosp., and had two children, one of them while becoming qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon. I haven't found her first husband's name, but #2 was Lawrence Way, MD,and one son is Stewart Way. This information is from reputable secondary sources, and is provided by Dr. Day herself, in answer to a question posed on her website www.goodnewsaboutgod.com, a question about whether she is really a doctor. I will not engage you in edit warring: if you insist on "hatting" this entry again, I will submit it in some other fashion.
I was incorrect about Dr. Day being LDS: she states that she was raised SDA and vegetarian, which she says was a hardship during her childhood in the 1950's as her family moved from town to town. Not eating meat set them apart in one more way.
The first source, about the Australian lecture tour, (just after finishing her residency, if I remember correctly) was 'Australian Women's Weekly,' and I don't seem to have the issue # or date, but I will attempt to obtain it. Article title is "Surgeon is a Supermum."
'Univ. of Cal. San Francisco Magazine,' April 1983.
She was nominated to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a selective organization, and the third source is their house organ, the 'Bulletin,' vol. 33, #2, Sept. 1985.
SF Chronicle, 25June1980, "People Who Patch Up The Suicide Leapers."
I am not facile with formatting inline citations. The complete link at which I found most of this information is: [www.goodnewsaboutgod.com/studies/dr_day/doc_day.htm]. I will go back for further information, but PLEASE don't "hat" this again. Rags (talk) 04:52, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
My BLP concerns were related to your very first sentence, which could be seen as "unsourced negative information", which would be a BLP violation. I have no concern about offending Day. That's none of our business. If it's reliably sourced, we often include very negative and offensive information. Be careful about using information from her if it might be seen as unduly promotional, but basic biographical information can often be from a primary source. I'm not sure how much of this is significant enough to be good content, but go ahead and give it a try. Don't worry too much about the reference formatting. Try to copy what you see from how the other references are done. -- Brangifer (talk) 05:09, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
Boyoboy! Talk about SURGERY! I'm looking back over my notes on Dr. Day, and this article, and not only were all my contributions deleted, but they are DELETED FROM THE EDIT HISTORY!!! How does THAT work? I didn't realize that the WMF is a subordinate division of the AMA!!! I guess, if a doctor's opinions don't agree with the PDR and the latest revealed wisdom from the medical establishment, all buildings will be razed, and the fields sewn with salt!!! Excuse me for breathing!!!
I will suspend disbelief here, and attempt to reconstruct my previous contributions, with what references I can scrounge. I would like to assume good faith in this discussion, but the deletions from edit history beggar the imagination!
