Who da hell...

..wrote this article, where ship was addressed as SHE .Nice English ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.172.206.114 (talk) 11:51, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Things like countries and cars are given as "she" for many times so it is not a mistake. Of course you can refer the ship simply as "it" but "she" is not a wrong usage. I think you better check out Wikipedia for other examples. Deliogul (talk) 12:03, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Due to Britain's past as a naval power, ships are usually considered feminine in English. I have never seen "it" used by a British or American writer/journalist/essayist when talking about a ship, and I have read a lot of books in English. Besides, this is a rule that may be found in most English grammars.--213.140.21.227 (talk) 08:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For native Croatian speaker, the usage of 'she' when addressing an ship may seem unusual because of ship being of male gender in Croatian. I personally have accepted the commonly used female addressing for ships in English language. Just think of the ship as 'boat', and your translations from English to Croatian will match. In both languages, boat is female. It helped me. (65.115.38.32 (talk) 19:14, 12 February 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Cause of the fire?

[edit]

Does anyone have a source showing what caused the fire in the first place? 81.157.153.103 (talk) 12:30, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, i know that u can address the ship as she (along with cars and lots of others) in english, but the propper grammar term is 'it' . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.172.206.11 (talk) 18:05, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
