Hiya, Before the Hamnavoe, the Varagen was build as a Pentland Firth ferry, but rather for the Stromness/Scrabster route it was to run from Gill's bay to Berwick at the south of South Ronaldsay. The harbours turned out not to be suitable at the time, the project was abandoned at the end of the summer 90 (I believe) and the ferry was repurposed for the North Isles service together with the Earl Thorfinn and the Earl Sigurd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.168.225.78 (talk) 15:06, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Before the Hamnavoe, the Stromness/Scrabster route was serviced by the St Ola (4) which was a second hand ship run by P&O Scotland. Before that it was serviced 1976-1992 by another St Ola (3) which had been built in Aberdeen for this route. I will find out about St Ola (1) and St Ola (2) in due cause but believe that they too had been built for the route.
