Developments

[edit]

I'm not sure if it's worth updating the article yet, but some people are trying to stop the demolition. Meanwhile the building has been damaged further in the latest aftershocks, and the owner has been advised that it is in danger of "imminent collapse".[1] --Avenue (talk) 10:01, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And another update: [2] --Avenue (talk) 16:13, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say it's worthy of documenting this. Can't do it myself; stuck in Aussie with no spare time on my hands. Schwede66 18:58, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've updated the article. It'll no doubt need updating again soon. --Avenue (talk) 23:08, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Most recent development here concerning that they're almost finished, and also that despite the estimate of six weeks that work has continued into late January and that they've just recently opened Manchester street up to one way traffic, I've just updated the main Earthquake article with this but obviously be useful here too.Number36 (talk) 21:52, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, article needs updating (including the lead). Would be nice if you got round to that. Or I might do it sometime. I could take an up to date photo. Schwede66 22:05, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo from today is now on Commons. Schwede66 21:03, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Effect of aftershocks

[edit]

Article contains conflicting info about the effect of aftershocks. Nurg (talk) 11:32, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What specifically?Number36 (talk) 07:50, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"The owner presented evidence of further damage in aftershocks". "The building, significantly weakened by the removal of key structural supports by demolition engineers, withstood a number of large aftershocks without issue." Perhaps replacing "issue" with "collapsing" would be sufficent. "without issue" is way too vague and suggests point-of-view pushing. Nurg (talk) 10:09, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That seems reasonable, made the edit now.Number36 (talk) 10:18, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heritage enthusiasts

[edit]

The part that says 'Heritage enthusiasts and others protested against demolition', should it be more specific about who the heritage enthusiasts were? I'm fairly enthusiastic about heritage, and was saddened by the loss of this building, but I trusted the building reports and that it had to come down. Just as well it did, yesterday's quake would have definately brought it down, it hit the inner city much worse unfortunately.Number36 (talk) 07:50, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
