Some Suggestions for your Matthew Stafford Wikipedia Page

I really enjoyed reading the information that you wrote about Matthew Stafford. Although, I think you could make some changes to your work that you might want to consider. For example, under the sophomore section when you talk about how Matthew Stafford completed 11 of 18 passes and passed for 217 yards and three touchdowns against Florida, I noticed you did not cite this information. Not saying I don't believe what you mentioned, but I think if you cite a fact like this, it will look more legit to other people as for being accurate. Also, I noticed under the "Personal Life" section you mentioned and cited how Matthew Stafford married his longtime girlfriend Kelly Hall, and when I viewed this cite it was called "fabwags.com." The point that I am trying to make is that I have never heard of this cite, so it could be better if you find something more reliable like espn, NFL.com, or maybe a scholarly article on Matthew Stafford.Rotenbe5 (talk) 21:59, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

For the most part I think you did a pretty good job at making sure that all of the information you posted was relevant to Matthew Stafford. Although, I noticed that you mentioned under the section "2013" that Matthew Stafford's former head coach Jim Schwartz was fired. Personally, I think you should delete this information because it is not about Matthew Stafford. Also, I think you should delete this information because when I read it, it took my attention away from Matthew Stafford, and made me more interested in learning about the details behind the firing of Jim Schwartz. Lastly, I think you should delete the information about Matthew Stafford's spring performance because it doesn't seem to be to important since you only mention it briefly.Rotenbe5 (talk) 21:59, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Overall, I think you did an excellent job at making sure that none of your information you found is out of date because everything you mentioned has happened within the last 10 years and the info is significant to Matthew Stafford's football journey/career. I think you could add more information about Matthew Stafford's personal life because I noticed you don't talk much about it. Some suggestions of things you could add about his personal life is what made him want to start playing football? Who inspired him to play the game of football? Pre Draft Statement

I added back the pre draft statement that someone removed. I think it is valid to this article. No matter if he has success and proves the fans wrong or if he proves them right it was a widley covered story and should be in his article. This addition had to be deleted without any discussion, because it was unsourced. As you can read in that template above, Wikipedia's policy regarding biographies of living persons says: "Contentiohttps://www.therams.com/team/players-roster/us material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately." Matthew Stafford name mistake?

Is his name really John Matthew Stafford or is it Matthew John Stafford? If it is there should be a part about why he is always called Matthew Stafford. The way it is written is a little confusing because no one knows him by that name. Sport.07GamerDet (talk) 20:40, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

@Sport.07GamerDet: His full name appears to be John Matthew Stafford: "John Matthew Stafford, taken with the first pick of the 2009 draft, set the record for the fastest to 30,000 yards in NFL history and, if he stays on pace, sometime next month will become the fastest to 40,000." We always use the full name in the first sentence, if available. The article name is the most recignized version of the name. So it all looks OK. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 21:07, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Trade to Rams

Is there a good way to "report on" or mention the trade to the Rams without violating WP:SPORTSTRANS? I know that the trade is not yet official, but it is widely reported on. And unfortunately, the trade will not take effect until March, but there may be a lot of editors who want to change this article in the meantime.

I feel like it would be appropriate to report the trade agreement, while acknowledging that it is yet to become official at the start of the new league year. Jared Goff himself has confirmed trade

Jared Goff has confirmed the trade per a post on his Instagram page. I understand that this is coming from a primary source, but is it safe to name him quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams in the introductory paragraph? TangibleTangerines (talk) 01:43, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

One of the guidelines that we have been following is WP:SPORTSTRANS, which states that "the transaction should not be presented as having been completed". For this trade, it cannot be completed until March 17 (the start of the NFL year), so Goff and Stafford have not been officially traded. @Cole42069: You don’t know that. It doesn’t matter how many news sources “confirm” it, we wait until the trade is official. The page will not be updated until March 17. You know, I'm not sure why we can't have something on there about the pending trade even if it can't be made official yet. Same with the Goff and Wentz articles. We go by what reliable sources state, after all. Of course Stafford is still a Lion right now, but it just seems weird to not mention it at all. If the trade does fall through for whatever reason (highly unlikely), surely the fact that there was a trade in place would be noteworthy enough to mention in the article. I'm suggesting something along the lines of "It was reported that the Lions agreed to trade...yadda yadda yadda...but the trade can't be completed until the start of the new league year." --Bongwarrior (talk) 23:44, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

These are not official reports that the trade is now official. These are still "initial" reports that mention the trade as being attributed to "unofficial sources". Then may I ask how JJ Watts page could be changed to the Arizona Cardinals, as the link supporting this on his wikipedia page is a [| breaking news report] from NFL.com? Stafford and Goff both have numerous similar reports, as well as coach confirmations, such as [| this] or [| this] or [| this one]? Not asking to be rude, but I dont understand how you can get the similar information from the same source but one is considered "breaking news" despite being announced and confirmed by coaches months ago, (as well as both the [| Rams] and the [| Lions] sending farewell videos) while the other is not despite being a signing that's happened within the last month??? What we (were) waiting for is official press releases, such as these: [1][2]. I would say that the JJ Watt ref may be lacking, but it has been officially announced and confirmed by the Cardinals. The Rams-Lions trade was always an "unofficial" trade until last night, because the trade could not be made until the start of the NFL league year yesterday. As some of the reports that you posted mention, "the trade sending Goff to Detroit and welcoming Matthew Stafford to L.A. [is] unofficial until the start of the new league year on March 17", and so even the coaches were not allowed to officially talk about their new QBs until yesterday.
