[edit]I feel like this page should be kept because it could help educate people on the importance of accepting Cherokee basketry as an art instead of a craft. And my intentions, are to hopefully inspire other young Cherokees to take an interest in this art, because it is endangered.
- If you can find a source for his notability, AKA what makes him stand out above any other Cherokee basket weaver, this article will be kept. Until then, the article will probably be deleted. SuperDT 05:48, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Like, what kind of source?
- A book, an internet source(reliable, third party source like a news site, and not like a Myspace page), a magazine article, anything. If you can provide this, I'll take my nomination down, no questions asked. SuperDT 05:53, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
He did write a forward for a book called "Weaving the Double Lidded Cherokee Basket" By Charlotte Coats.
http://www.lulu.com/content/427918
But unfortunatly, he is not mentioned on this particular page.
He is also listed here in the Oklahoma Native American Basket Weavers and was a guest writer in 2006 for the Renewing Traditions newsletter...

- Getting really close, but not quite there yet ;) Did he win any kind of award(s) for his work, or have his works mentioned in something? I'll tell you what; I'll make my Speedy Delete into a Prod; this will give you 5 days from now to find sources. I have a small feeling this guy is notable somehow... SuperDT 06:05, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, his name is mentioned at http://www.cherokeeheritage.org toward the bottom of the page for an award he won earlier this month. And also, here is the link to an article he wrote for the Renewing Traditions Newsletter
http://www.onab.org/MikeDartGuestWriter.htm
- It's an honorable mention, but for the time being, it's a source nonetheless. I'll put it into the article. If you have anymore sources that tell of his notability, please don't be afraid to make a references section, and put your sources there.
- I have changed to a Prod instead of Speedy Deletion; this will give you 5 days from now to get as many sources as you can. I'd suggest going to your local bookstore or library and looking up books by, about or mentioning him. SuperDT 06:15, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Heres another place where I have found him mentioned for winning an award. Toward the bottom of the page.
http://www.cherokeesoforangecounty.org/arts.html
- Great! 2nd place! Now we're getting somewhere ;) Now we've somewhat established notability, so I'll go ahead and withdraw my ProD. But as I've said before, the more sources, the better, so get as many sources as you can. Not just about awards and stuff, but about his life, his style, and maybe even pictures of one or two of his works. SuperDT 14:11, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Did you all know that he also is a founding member of the Cherokee Basketweavers Association, and has been responsible for teaching several young Cherokee kids in his community basketry as well. He is really remarkable, even if he isn't very well documented.
I think this article should be REMOVED. While there is no doubt that he is a very good basket weaver, I do not feel like he has done enough to be considered "natable." This should be replaced by an article about Sandra Pallie, the founder of the Cherokee Basketweavers Association. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.179.112.183 (talk) 16:01, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
