Rename?
[edit]I think "mining community" is a broader and better term to use than "mining town". In addition, the main category of this article is Category:Mining communities. Renaming this article to "Mining community" would match the parent category and according to WP:CATEGORY, "topic categories are named after a topic (usually sharing a name with the Wikipedia article on that topic). For example, Category:France contains articles relating to the topic France". Thus, it seems proper to rename this article to "mining community". I will do the move if I do not hear from anyone in the next few days. Volcanoguy 10:23, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit]There are glaring issues here that need to be addressed. A mining community is typically created to house a population to mine the specific product. A mill town is not mining community, nor is a smelter town, or a coke town or a train town. Each of these places has a specific business model. AND the idea saloons being there, not a fact, nor is it the wild west concept of a ghost town. AGAIN, we all have to come to an agreement about how these places are categorized and we all have to drop the mythos around these communities. I am open for any and all discussion. Single sourcing will not do. There are A LOT of references we can useCoal town guy (talk) 15:39, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, completely. Coal isn't in any way smelted. This article needs some serious help. CoalTownGuy is onto something here. What can we do to help? --Mari Adkins 16:15, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- We have an approved coal town article. We also have a coal town cat named coal towns. There are certainly diffs, and they are important enough to make them differentCoal town guy (talk) 16:26, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
