Oppose move to Monolith (DC Comics) per WP:NCCom - SoM 02:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose per SoM. Monolith (comics) should stay. There isn't enough ambiguity to justifly the existance of Monolith (DC Comics). Monolith (DC Comics) should be a redirect for now. We can worry about merging when and if another character, series, object, etc.. appears in the comics industry that deserves its own article. (Stephen Day 02:59, 14 February 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Fair enogh. I'll withdraw the request. Naming conventions have never been my strong point.--Toffile 03:02, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category: Jewish superheroes

[edit]

I just wanted to say why I deleted this Category. The Golem's personality is based on the character Peter. The story never says that he was jewish when he was alive so I my opinion the Monolith is not Jewish. If someone disagrees please say so here as I'm always willing to listen. :-) (Stephen Day 23:47, 25 February 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Well I will look at this from a serious perspective. The Monolith was a golem born of Jew magic (Yes we are magical, this has been well-established), but was not actually given birth to by an ima yehudia (Jewish mother), nor is there evidence of him having actually converted to Judaism as religion. I have only seen him in Battle for Blüdhaven, and so I could be wrong, but while he is definitely acting in ways that a yehudi tov (good Jew) would act, he doesn't appear to study Torah, pray in general, or ever use Hebrew, Yiddish or Ladino. As well, and this is very important to being Jewish, but I highly doubt he is circumcised, and I quite frankly don't want to take the time to actually write to DC asking such a silly question. It appears his creation was meant to fulfill the role of the modern New Jew, which is ofc to stamp out anti-Semetism forcefully. Would like to see more Jewish superheroes though. Cleanup notice

[edit]

I've removed this notice because I don't think this article needs it anymore. If I've oversteped my bounds on this then I apologize. (Stephen Day 16:36, 4 March 2006 (UTC))[reply]
