I added linkt to Naughty By Nature since they where quite loosely associated with NTP in the later days of the posse.

Contested Members

[edit]
  • Common
  • Talib Kweli
  • Shortie No Mass
  • Naughty By Nature
  • Fu-Shnickens

It seems to be "common knowledge" that Talib Kweli and Common are mombers of the Native Tongues, but i disagree. Just because they collaborated doens't make them members, especially during periods the collective was in disarray. If anyone has any counterpoints or other suggestions, please discuss. If I am not mistaken, wasn't naughty by nature a member of the NTP? They were in the NTP collabrative video back in 93. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.166.47.172 (talk) 21:20, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Naughty By Nature were not members of the Native Tongues collective. They had a brief conflict with De La Soul at one time.

Souls Of Mischief,Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and the rest of the Hieroglyphics crew are also not affiliated with the Native Tongues. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steeltownbrown (talkcontribs) 00:13, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

De La Soul in a interview with Much Music back in 1996 stated the following members of the Native Tongue-Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, Fu-Schnickens, Common, Truth Enola and Mos Def.

Brand Nubian added to affiliates after confirmation in the documentary "Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest"

Effect outside of the music industry?

[edit]

Did this less individualistic, more affiliatonal approach (family) have an effect in the wider culture? Did it affect television, film, literature? How successful was this approach - in terms of concert attendance, record sales, music charting (radio station play), awards - or even in other ways that aren't as easily measured? How did the more individualistic rap & hip hop artists respond? I have no idea; just asking out of curiosity. Ileanadu (talk) 21:28, 15 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
