National Service

There should be some discussion of Rowe's often repeated claim that he was deliberately selected for propaganda reasons and that he never met anyone in Vietnam with the same birthday.--Jack Upland (talk) 10:02, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rowe was pulled over by a policeman, who had the same birthday, but who was not called up. When he mentioned this to ABC Radio a researcher at the War Memorial found that Rowe was overseas during the draft lottery, and so he went into a supplementary lottery. In the supplemental lottery his birthday was drawn. The policeman's birthday wasn't drawn in the draft lottery, and since he was in Australia and had faced the draft lottery, he wasn't entered into the supplemental lottery. The AWM researcher gave as her reference the draft lottery results tables in "A Nation at War" by Peter Edwards in 1997. Gdt (talk) 14:24, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issues

Much of the content from this page appears to be taken from http://www.milesago.com/artists/rowe.htm - including several sections where wording is copied verbatim. To ensure this was not a case of reverse copying, I checked Wayback and this version from 13 Sep 2003 contains much the same as it does today at least in respect of the copied sections. The site in question does not have a copyright notice but the content has not been released under any free or CC licence and hence Australian copyright law would apply to the content. The constant references to "Normie" rather than "Rowe" is a clear indication of a copy'n'paste job. I hate to say it but I feel the best option is to delete all as a copyvio and start from scratch. Otherwise the copyvio material will still be in the article history. It may be possible to recover some of the lead and discography after deletion. The copyright violating material seems to have been added from this point. Perhaps this version could be retrieved but as it is an unsourced BLP, I would stick with deleting it all and starting again with a sourced stub. -- Mattinbgn\^talk 05:22, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article was extensively edited by Dunks58|, who created the milesago website. He's edited plenty of articles about Australian rock groups (e.g. The Masters Apprentices), with content copied from his site. Graham87 03:34, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Graham! Yes, much of this article was copied from my original on Milesago. Sorry for the lack of citations but I was a total Wiki-newbie at the time. Will undertake an upgrade of this article ASAP to include inline citations. For the record, I am the author of that article and copyright owner of Milesago and give full permission for any content shared with Milesago to be used on Wikipedia. Hope that clears this up.
