Is this worthy of being mentioned?

[edit]

When Spike was on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight recently, he said it's not a remake but a "reinterpretation". In fact, he repeatedly says it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylrLtpeHK4Q&feature=plcp --EclecticEnnui (talk) 19:10, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ratings

[edit]

WP:MOSFILM says not to include ratings. Why is it included here? The source even says the R rating is unsurprising, i.e. not notable. -- 109.76.189.133 (talk) 01:43, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No Source?

[edit]

An early leaked casting call garnered controversy over the perceived stereotypical nature of the non-Caucasian roles; an unnamed Asian woman (“mysterious exotic beauty”), a middle-aged African-American woman (“drug addicted nutcase”), and a Latino man (“bullishly strong street thug/criminal”). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.63.13 (talk) 05:18, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Manga Inspiration

[edit]

It should probably be noted that this film was not just based on the original movie but takes quite a bit more from the original comic. 75.164.241.3 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 22:35, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

But what's "the classic"?

[edit]
It was released in the US on November 27, 2013, by FilmDistrict. It received a mixed reviews, with many critics finding it inferior to the classic.

But what's "the classic"—the preceding film, or the manga on which both are based? I'm guessing it's the former, but will everyone get that? – 2001:569:72B6:9E00:93C:9BD0:3FD5:53FC (talk) 05:24, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reception

[edit]

@Nyxaros: Regarding this edit, where in the linked sources does it say the film received a negative reception? --FMSky (talk) 07:56, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vice ref: "The first time he didn’t was with 2013’s critically-panned Oldboy, which Lee felt was butchered in the studio’s theatrical cut."
BFI ref: "That the film has been roundly panned by critics and flopped dramatically at the box office on both sides of the Atlantic is unlikely to prompt Lee to open up further on the subject."
I think the sentence "was panned by critics" or something like that originally, but whatever. It's definitely not "mixed" based on a "5.1 score". ภץאคгöร 10:15, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
