The official Indonesian government websites refer to the city as "Padang Panjang" not "Padangpanjang" - see http://www.bps.go.id/~sumbar/govern11.html , http://www.bps.go.id/~sumbar/ujiweb/UHOME/UINDEX.CFM?UHOME=111 and http://www.sumbarprov.go.id/home/detail.asp?iData=64&iCat=297&iChannel=28&nChannel=1.%20Profile%20Daerah. for example. In addition, this seems true of newspapers like The Jakarta Post - see http://www.thejakartapost.com/yesterdaydetail.asp?fileid=20041122.F04 (Caniago 09:16, 23 March 2006 (UTC))[reply]

How about rewording the opening sentence to

Padang Panjang (or Padangpadang in Bahasa Indonesia, literally, "'long field'") is located in the cool highlands of West Sumatra.....

I've made a similiar type of change to the document to list Padangpanjang as an alternate spelling.
