Mouthbreathing?

[edit]

Is mouth breathing really the same as the other parafunctional activities listed? This suggests that people breath through their mouths as a semivoluntary habit. I would imagine most mouth breathing carried out as a necessary adaptation to get enough air due to obstruction in nasal cavity or nasopharynx that prevents normal breathing, rather than a mere habitual behavior ... Bouncing your legs while sitting

[edit]

You know...keeping your motor running while you're in a state of flow? Tapping/bouncing one or both legs while working. Would this be considered a parafunctional activity? --68.50.141.148 (talk) 04:56, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it fits the definition... Some useless habit which is carried semi-consciously, perhaps the result of stress or inner tension. I would add however that this term is almost exclusively used in dentistry and related fields. Medicine as a whole does not seem to use the term. Lesion (talk) 09:58, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
