I'm new to the Wikipedia game, and I can't find a specific policy that allows spedy deletion for an article that is an advertisement. Since this one is a blatant ad, I'm bringing it to people's attention with hopes that someone will either a) put the proper tag on it and get it out of here, or b) also motion to delete. This page is absolutely NOT an advertisement. Therefore, I am removing the request for deletion (as I understand the policies and procedures say I can/should). I added this page because I believe what Hotchkiss and his company are doing is important, is part of a contemporary movement to promote sustainable development, and is admirable and should be known about. You'll also notice that Whirlwind has its own entry in Wikipedia. I'm new to Wikipedia, too, and am kind of shocked to have my first entry attacked so quickly. By the way, I have no connection to Hotchkiss or Whirlwind except as a college classmate who admires him and his work. Mildredofbeulah 04:38, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please understand that no one is attacking you when they add a request for deletion on an article you have created. Wikipedia is an entity with thousands of editors, all of whom have a different point of view on what is notable and what is not. You'll find that most of us do our best to follow the guidelines of Wikipedia, and keep things as civil as possible.
Your article attracted my attention because it currently lists very little information about Mr. Hotchkiss, and links only to the website where his products are sold. These are both signs of an advertisement, and are likely to draw the attention of RC Patrollers. After a Google search and a bit of digging, I see that you are correct in your claims. I'll keep an eye on the page, and try to help you where I can. Consequentially 04:55, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. I've also edited the page a bit now, so that it links to a couple of other Wikipedia articles. So, should I go put something on the Discussion page of the Request for Deletion (I hope I've got the terminology right), so that I'm on record in the right place as opposing deletion?? Oh, and sorry about trying to delete the request for deletion -- I'm still learning, here. Mildredofbeulah 05:17, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
