"Cull" order?!

[edit]

Just reposting what I wrote in another talk page: why use "cull order" when the word translated as "cull" actually and unambiguously means "kill" (the entire phrase is 胡令). You can cull documents, flowers, or knowledge, but as far as I know, "culling" for "killing" only applies to reducing animal populations by selective killing. By using "cull" to refer to a massacre of humans, you make it sound like the various Hu ethnic groups were animals. This (needless to insist) is in gross violation of Wikipedia's NPOV policy. The correct appellation should be "Ran Min's execution order," "Ran Min's order to kill the Jie," or something along those lines. Madalibi (talk) 02:52, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't cull=kill? I just chose cull cause I thought "Ran Min's kill order" doesn't sound good. Teeninvestor (talk) 11:31, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"If you touch my daughter again, I'll cull you." That doesn't really work. The point is that "cull" is for animal populations, not for humans. "Execution order" or "order to kill" would be fine. Madalibi (talk) 01:50, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
