RE: REUSCHEL

[edit]

I heard he was at the lastest Cubs Convention in Chicago with his family. His son is 20years old. I remember the 23-22 game at Wrigley. The game if I remember was great vs. the Phillies. They came back in the 12th and even the score at 22. Reuschel pitched in 16th. Barry Foote, the catcher, hit a homer into a window on Waveland Ave.!! They lost, but a great try! Herman Franks the manager would be proud as we were!

Origin of Nickname

[edit]

Just pasting this here because it may disappear behind a paywall at some point:

"Rick Reuschel: Big Daddy. 'Dick Tidrow gave that to him back in 1977 with the Cubs,' said [Mike] Krukow. 'He was the second-fastest guy on the team and Dick said he missed his chance, he should have played football and been the next Big Daddy Lipscomb. It stuck.'"
