Travolta?[edit]

Does anyone have a source for the claim that John Travolta's version came out first, let alone in 1972? Other sources including Travolta's page says it wasn't released until 1976. Dick Rosemont at http://www.originalsproject.us/ lists McCann's version as the original and makes no mention of Travolta. Seems more likely to me that McCann's was issued first, with Travolta and Warnes both getting it from that. Brettalan (talk) 02:21, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm deleting the assertion that Travolta cut an early version: the Youtube clip of his single features the lyrics which McCann revised for Warnes to record. In light of this I don't see how Travolta could have recorded the song prior to 1977 as that was when Warnes' version garnered attention. I'm citing Travolta's version being released on the 1978 album Greased Lightnin which is the earliest sourced release info I have found for it.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 02:01, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I see the claim of Travolta's version being the original is back - I have tagged it as needing a citation but to be honest I believe any source which corroborates that info has to be mistaken. If Travolta recorded the song prior to Warnes his version would of necessity feature the original second verse lyrics as recorded by McCann: as may be verified on Youtube, Travolta sings the lyrics written by McCann for Warnes to record in July 1976. Even if Travolta's camp heard a preview of Warnes' track and had him record it prior to January 1977 when Warnes' single and its parent album were released, Warnes still recorded the song first and if there's a source for any release of Travolta's version prior to 1978 I haven't seen it - and believe me I've looked! Among other things I've double-checked the above assertion by Brettalan re "Travolta's page" claiming a 1976 release of his version: if "Travolta's page" is the official site at travolta.com there doesn't seem to be any reference to Travolta's recordings there now. Of course Travolta's version rates a mention in the article but for the claim of its being the earliest recorded version to remain, particularly strong grounds should be provided.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 22:42, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re the above: while it doesn't absolutely disprove Travolta's version being recorded first I have found an assertion that his take on "Right Time of the Night" was never released prior to 1978 when it was featured on the Travolta Fever compilation. On page 65 of the San Francisco Examiner dated 26 November 1978 there is a Tower Records ad for Travolta Fever vaunting the "never-before-released track 'Right Time of the Night'". I understand that an advertisement is arguably not the strongest of proof - although in this case it logically conveys info supplied by Travolta's label - : also of course it's the recording of Travolta's version rather than its release which is in question. However if indeed as indicated by the above Brettalan posting of 2012 there was an assertion that Travolta's "Right Time of the Night" was released in 1976 and there's an assertion in a newspaper from the autumn of 1978 that the Travolta version had just been released for the first time, it goes to show that the Travolta version of "Right Time of the Night" has undoubtedly been the source of some confusion, and for the claim that his version was the first to be recorded - which as I've stated in the above paragraph is unlikely due to his version's lyrics - to stand, particularly strong grounds should be produced, as the Travolta track has definitely engendered some contradictory info.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 23:26, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Double mention of change in second verse lyrics[edit]

I realize there's some repetition of data in Section 1 and Section 2, specifically about the distinct second verse lyrics. As IMHO that info is relevant to both the song's composition & its recording by Warnes I felt that info had to be present in both sections as theoretically a Wikipedia user might only consult one section & not the other.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 01:02, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
