Correction Request for Ross Island Information

[edit]

Dear Wikipedia editors,

I would like to bring to your attention some inaccuracies regarding the information about Ross Island and Ross and Smith Island in the "North and Middle Andaman District" section.

Ross Island, which has been renamed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, is actually situated in Port Blair, not in North and Middle Andaman as currently stated. The correct location in the North and Middle Andaman District is Ross and Smith Island, a different and distinct location. As a local resident of the Andaman Islands, I can confirm this information and would appreciate your permission to rewrite this section to provide accurate details.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to contributing to a more accurate representation of the Andaman Islands on Wikipedia.

Do you have any sources to confirm this name change? The Banner talk 11:46, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your inquiry. As a local resident of the Andaman Islands, I can confirm that Ross Island, situated in Port Blair, was officially renamed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island. This renaming was part of a broader initiative to honor India's freedom fighters, announced by the Government of India in 2018. It's important to note that there is another Ross Island located in the North Andaman district, which is a different location entirely and retains its original name. By further this Ross Island is popularly known as Ross and Smith Island this is because this Ross Island shares a beautiful connecting sand bar to Smith Island when there is low tide the two island "Ross and Smith " Separted with the sand bar.
These two islands, despite sharing the name "Ross," are distinct and should not be confused with each other.
For further verification, you may refer to government notifications or press releases from that time, which document the name change as part of the commemorations. I hope this clarifies the distinction between these two locations. Ajay2287 (talk) 13:03, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What we need is prior published proof of the change. Newspaper articles will do. So if you have any weblinks of these. The Banner talk 13:54, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
