Santana is special because of their unique combination of styles and Carlos Santana's groundbreaking sound as a lead guitarist. I'd love for a section that goes more in depth the band's sonic inspiration and how their sound compared to their contemporaries, beyond just listing genres. Request for band members page

[edit]

This band could certainly use a "List of Santana Band Members" page because the huge number of members listed on the homepage is a little hectic. I don't know enough about the band to start, one, but It could definitely be useful! — DLManiac (talk) 20:55, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I came here to point out much the same thing. When I looked at {{Santana}}, I was puzzled that the lineup didn't include any mention of Michael Carabello. Looks like about two years ago, someone revamped the template based solely on the existence or non-existence of blue links, giving zero regard to the topic's relevance to the band's history. The summary of that edit cited WP:EXISTING, which states: "Red links should normally be avoided unless they are very likely to be developed into articles". As we're talking about a person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 as part of the band's "classic lineup", this would seem to be a case of cherry-picking policy or guidelines and not using common sense. Well, lo and behold, the article on Carabello has existed for years, but was titled "Mike Carabello" until about a month after his name was removed from the template. Even worse, the template includes a link to Chester Thompson, which is an article about Chester C. Thompson the drummer, even though I'm sure it was supposed to refer to Chester D. Thompson the keyboard player. Both played on Beyond Appearances and are sufficiently disambiguated in the text of that article, but both blue links in that article point to the article on the drummer. I think there is interest in the various band lineups and that we're possibly confusing rather than clarifying matters. Who is "Rod Harper"? He was never their drummer. He is not even in the list of past members. The drummer on their first album and at Woodstock was Michael Shrieve. Please change this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.34.151.216 (talk) 08:34, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree that a List of Santana band members article should be created because the "Personnel" section of the article is basically a checklist of every musician who joined the band. CHICHI7YT (talk) 17:24, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Good point; the band currently has nine members, and the number of former members is at least 60. Sc2353 (talk) 03:57, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Awards and nominations

[edit]

As a casual reader, one section I feel was wanting was a section on Santana's Awards and nominations. It's mentioned in the lead that they won 9 awards in one night in 2000, but a quick google search shows it seems they've won tons of awards, and they've been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Where is this info? —Shrinkydinks (talk) 23:58, 6 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No acknowledgement for Marcus Malone

[edit]

He was the percussionist that joined the band in 1966. The one line entry stating he left the band in '69 after being convicted for manslaughter does not do the guy justice. Sanatan credits him with giving the band it's improvisation approach to music. It doesn't even mention that in 2013 Santana tracked him down when he was a homeless man living in Oakland.
