Comments

[edit]

The video doesn't seem to be anything like "Take A Bow" ... maybe he changed his mind? Doesn't this song have a bdsm subtext ("whip me if i misbehave" etc)?

Pop Culture Significance

[edit]

Someone should mention the effect this song has had on pop culture recently, as celebrities are constantly using or parodying the word "sexyback" while publicly speaking. Also the term itself "sexyback" should be elaborated on, both in terms of the writers and Justin's viewpoint and the public's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.157.217.8 (talk) 04:22, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parodies

[edit]

Are parodies of songs no longer worth mentioning? Weird Al is going to be disappointed.

Video

[edit]

Perhaps the section on the video should state who the girl in the video is?

C'mon guys

[edit]

"Probably the most annoying song since 'Hollaback Girl' this tune is guaranteed to annoy the life out of any music lover, with its childish repetetive lyrics, a very sad attempt to be entertaining."

That's not Wiki material, so I deleted it. I myself do not like Timberlake either, but that shit is opinion, and POV. And honestly, I find "My Humps" to be even more annoying than "Hollaback."

Loved My Humps, loved Sexy Back even more and you pple can bun in hell. -G

Hated My Humps despised Hollaback Girl but loved Sexy Back. But that's neither here nor there.

Why does it say at the Bottom of this page that Beyonce is No.1 on the Hot 100, and Justin is No.2 this week? H's still No.1 and Beyonce's only No.11.

What does the fact that Timbaland etc. are gay have anything to do with the song? If it's relevant, additional context would be nice.

sexy is definitely back.

Removal of image

[edit]

I removed the screenshot from the video because it was of no real illustrative value to the article. The image lacks sufficient context to inform the reader of anything of significance, does not appear to be momentous in any way, and is not specifically discussed in the test. LowKarmaError 16:44, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Timbaland....

[edit]

Once again this is disputed, but he IS a featured artist. The billboards had him credited as featured, and so does the album. Why is it that he's not featured here? Even "Now! That's What I Call Music" credits him as featured. Genevieve-Tamerlaine (talk) 19:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If by "the billboards" you mean Billboard magazine, then that is incorrect - it charted as a solo Timberlake song. - eo (talk) 17:43, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nelly Furtado cover

[edit]

I don't think that Nelly Furtado ever covered "SexyBack" on her tour. Maybe it's meant that another artist (Jasmine) covered it in the break: http://youtube.com/watch?v=F5qN4-fwshE —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.155.221.40 (talk) 19:01, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

There is no reason why there needs to be a separate article for Poison's cover of this song. The information needs to be merged into this article. -Xnux the Echidna 23:17, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. The precedent is to keep all cover versions of a song within a single article. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:24, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Merge - cover versions and remixes don't get separate articles. Poison's version can be easily added to a small section at the end of the main "SexyBack" article. As this was a limited release, its hardly notable on its own. - eo (talk) 10:58, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Merge" - Be Bold. Just do it. Wolfer68 (talk) 06:42, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Merge" - Agreed. There is no need for a seperate article for a cover version. Go ahead and perform the merge. JayJ47 (talk) 10:16, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

cover

[edit]

Rivethead did a metal cover if I recall correctly. Heres a youtube of the recording of it I think. I don't know that they released it on an album but they circulated a bit of airplay with it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.84.73.217 (talk) 18:31, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

Hi. I'll be reviewing this article. Please just give me an hour or two to read through the article fully in order to give you a thorough review. Regards, Matthewedwards : Chat 19:13, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Is it reasonably well written?
    A. Prose quality:
Article is very well written generally. I just have a couple of things.
    What is "musiscape"?
The overall sound of the song. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 21:20, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In discussion of the song, Timberlake revealed that he went "left", regarding going more rock, not in how he developed the song, but in the way he sang it. is very wordy and hard to read.. can it be simplified in any way?
    How 'bout now?
The track entered the top ten on most charts just to clarify, could you make this "on most singles charts"?
"SexyBack" was certified platinum. it doesn't say where, but also, the infobox says 3x platinum for the US
    I think I got this.
In the Background section, In discussion of the song, isn't really necessary, cause we know he's discussing it because of the quote that follows
a list of 10 songs they did for the album is a bit informal. Try "...a list of 10 songs they recorded for the album"?
Let Me Talk To You/ My Love has a space after the forward slash, but not before it.. I don't know if it should be there or not
The source has it "styled" like that, but fixed per here.
Is there any additional information for the Poison cover? When was it released? Was there a music video. Are there any quotes from the band as to why they covered it?
The only thing I found, when working on the article, was that Bret Michaels, the front man of Poison, said that the their cover of the song was "about the heaviest track we've ever done as far as sound goes."{{cite journal|first=Gary|last=Graff|title=Poison bandmates end tensions with new album of cover songs|date=2007-06-22|work=The Plain Dealer|page=T15}}</ref> In another interview he said, "It sounds a lot like Poison meets Nine Inch Nails meets AC/DC. So it's like 'SexyBack in Black.'"{{cite journal|first=Mark|last=Jordan|title= Metal fans still pick this Poison -- '80s genre has revival, but this unit never quit rocking|date=2007-07-10|work=The Commercial Appeal|page=M1}}</ref> I don't whether or not that warrants to be included. What do you think? No, there was no video release. It was released in June 2007.
    B. MoS compliance:
Nothing major here, but please use Template:"' and Template:'" in sentences such as "'SexyBack' is the most annoyingly..., ..Timberland's repeated declaration that 'I'm bringing sexy back.'" when you have a single and double quote next to each other
    Done, I hope.
  2. Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
    A. References to sources:
    B. Citation of reliable sources where necessary:
WP:CHARTSCHART seems to recommend Hung Median owned sites rather than aCharts, especially for Good and FA articles. I've noticed discrepancies at aCharts before, myself, so I would tend to agree with this
    Added Hung Medien sources.
    C. No original research:
Should those succession boxes be referenced? It's not something I've seen, but I really don't know if they should.
No, they don't need to be sourced.
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. Major aspects:
    B. Focused:
  4. Is it neutral?
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. Is it stable?
    No edit wars, etc:
  6. Does it contain images to illustrate the topic?
    A. Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
Image is reasonably low resolution, and the soundclip is a small percentage of the song
    B. Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions:
Alt text is required on all images
    Will work on this.
    Added alt text. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 00:22, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
This is an excellent article, and I could find very little to fault with. I just have a couple of suggestions and questions before I pass it, so I'm putting it on hold. I have every faith that the editors will be able to respond and get this passed very soon. Well done to everyone involved. Matthewedwards : Chat 22:07, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the review. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 21:20, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Timbaland

[edit]

Timbaland is a featured artist on the song, isn't he? In Timberlake's album, this track is listed as "SexyBack (feat. Timbaland)" and it comes up as featuring Timbaland most places on the web. Correct me if I'm wrong. TBrandley (talk) 13:05, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

http://tinypic.com/r/zwdi5s/8 You aren't wrong.
@TBrandley: People have their own rules that they make up as they go along. Apparently all the proof in the world meets jack because it didn't chart that way on the Billboard, though I have seen other artists included on singles that didn't chart with them on the Billboard. Its basically there way or the highway. Arjoccolenty (talk) 12:31, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
