Marcelo Contento - Shadowgraph

[edit]

I added external links to a magicpedia page for Marcelo Contento, a Shadowgrapher mentioned here, so that people could read further about him, and they were removed. I don't understand why. I've read the policy regarding external links and such and I understand that perhaps an external link I added on another page was inappropriate, but I see no reason for it to be considered inappropriate here. It is relevant information about one of the subjects.

The article I'm referring to can be found here.

Please read our policy on external links. Contento is not himself notable enough for an article; and this article is about shadowgraphy, not about individual shadowgraphers. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:23, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did read the policy regarding external links, first of all. And despite this being an article about Shadowgraphy and not individual Shadowgraphs, I maintain that my link is relevant because Contento played a big role in the history of Shadowgraphy (considering he is the final direct recipient of the talent as performed by Felicien Trewey), and his Shadowgraphy routine is what he was most well-known for.
Furthermore, I beg to differ-Contento is indeed notable enough for an article and I'm actually looking to contribute one on him in the near future. I'm interested in it as part of the WikiProject: Magic. Arctucrus (talk) 19:51, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please do add an article on Contento, that would be appreciated. In the mean time it is usual Wikipedia guidelines not to link to external cites that only contain content that could be just as easily be in Wikipedia itself. This is in line with Wikipedia's purpose of being an encyclopaedia, and not a directory of internet links. If you think that geniimagazine.com/magicpedia is a good [[WP:|reliable source]] then it can be used as a source in your new article. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 20:57, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh, I understand now. That makes complete sense-not adding links to external cites that contain content that could just as easily be in Wikipedia itself. Thank you, I hadn't thought about it that way. I apologize. And I'll be sure to add an article on Marcelo ASAP, the only thing is that I'm the kind of person that likes to knock things out in one go, and right now I can't upload a picture of Contento that I have for the article because my account is too new, so I'm just waiting on that.
If the links are still around when I'm done with my article, I'll be sure to delete them and replace them with links to Contento's Wikipedia article. Arctucrus (talk) 21:17, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Any time you're writing on this subject, please observe our manual of style. Don't inappropriately capitalize shadowgraph or shadowgraphy; don't speculate ("most likely" and the like); don't use pretentious or cant terms ("passed on his talent" to a student, when what you mean is "taught" (or "passed on") his techniques [since talent by definition cannot be passed on]); that kind of thing. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:05, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
