In case of misunderstanding
[edit]Any historical figures in Chu whose name starts with Shen, their surname is Shenyin. There was no Shen in Chu. 沈尹壽、沈尹射、沈尹赤、沈尹戌、沈(尹)諸梁、(沈尹)後臧、沈尹朱。沈尹赤、沈尹射, 沈尹子桱 these are all of the shenyins in Chu. What happened was that in Song dynasty, historians confused the surname Shen with the surname Shenyin. Song historians simply thought that Shen was the name of a town and thus became a surname . In fact, 沈 was only a transcription of another Chu character which was related to their actual job---religious duties and Shamanism.
Yuanhe Xingzuan, a Tang dynasty book on genealogy, was correct about Shenyins.
If you can read Chinese language, all is answered in this article, this surname only leads to Ye. ----損齋 (talk) 17:50, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
