How well does the Sloughi get along with other sight hounds like the whippet, italian greyhound, and the chart polski? If i get one I would'nt want it fighting with my other dogs. So please tell me

Most sighthounds get on fine with other sighthounds in my experience but it varies from dog to dog the same as any other breed. I have a Greyhound an Saluki and a Whippet and they are devoted to each other. Wikipedia isn't really the place to be asking questions like that to be honest. I'm sure you can find some mildly obsessive websites about Sloughis who'll be able to give you a better opinion.188.29.112.105 (talk) 10:19, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

i think this article is very useful its like bringing foreign dogs straight into your home and giving you a clear insight to the world of sighthounds especially the sloughi and the other sighthound breeds

"Old age"

[edit]

This phrase was used in the Health section; however, no lifespan number(s) was(were) given.

Without knowing a lifespan, the phrase "old age" has no meaning.

So, what is the average lifespan for a Sloughi ? ? ? 2600:8800:784:8F00:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 18:20, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The importance of being Oska

[edit]

Xavier Przezdziecki, a sighthound scholar, in particular of the Sloughi (Les Lévriers 1975; Le Destin des Lévriers 1984) uses “oska” for the Berber sighthound, Sloughi, as well as for the Tuareg Azawakh. He makes (1984) the historic reference to Henri Duveyrier's: Exploration du Sahara: Les Touâreg du nord 1864, (page 224: le lévrier, ôska …) https://archive.org/details/explorationdusa00cossgoog/page/n14/mode/2up?q=chien. A modern Berber recognises the Tamazight word, currently pronounced hoska, in association with the Sloughi as denoting strong and big (personal communication). Expect to see the word in various forms ôska, hoska, oska, in association with both breeds.--Richard Hawkins (talk) 13:36, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Corrected modern orthography: !uskay = ‘greyhound’, source personal communication & [1]
