Gameplay
[edit]There is much more info on the Starbound Wiki if anyone is interested, I have created the "Playable Races" section also. Avenzhang (talk) 16:15, 29 January 2013 (UTC) "Aven" Zhang
Programming
[edit]It says that this game is written in C++ and lua and uses a custom game engine. It clearly states on the FAQ that it is in C++ and lua, but I see no mention of a game engine anywhere. Perhaps the programming language decision clearly implies that it is a custom engine, but I am unsure of this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.87.133.48 (talk) 00:04, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- A game consists of a game engine per definition even if the "engine" is so simple and integrated that it cannot be separated from the game logic and content, for example in the case of a naively-implemented "adventure"-style text adventure. 85.229.143.90 (talk) 18:57, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- If the game actually used a known middleware engine (like Unity) they would have to credit it, otherwise we are talking about a custom engine that they or people they know developed, and within their FAQ they'd not have to mention that at all. --MASEM (t) 00:18, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- There's at least 3 tweets you could use to cite that, here's one including context. Xxcom9a (talk) 01:43, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

The Xbox version in dev hell; notable?
[edit]It was announced some years ago that Chucklefish wanted to make a port of Starbound onto the Xbox One. (Possibly even 360.) This caused a feature freeze in 2016, for which the game has never unfrozen from.
Then, radio silence. It was clear the project wasn't doing well. Certification issues, performance stack issues, their chosen third party dev failing, restarts, and so on. BlitWorks is the current party in charge of the project, but it along with the porting job of Braid (video game) to various consoles appears to have largely fallen into the shrug dimension.
The actual talking point: If citations and data can be gathered, would it be considered notable to include a section in the main article regarding this delay? 2601:540:8200:92A:BEB4:D82A:EC1C:EEE0 (talk) 22:37, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- We would definitely need sources; we can't use radio silence as an indicator there are problems. --Masem (t) 22:47, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- That's the complicated bit. It's basically buried in Discord which is like IRC, except with an actual history. Or scrubbing the forums. If someone more dedicated to the cause can see to it, so be it. 2601:540:8200:92A:BEB4:D82A:EC1C:EEE0 (talk) 07:47, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Source code leaked, Tiy doesn't seem to care

This should probably be mentioned. 206.127.46.95 (talk) 14:52, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
