Critical Response 2

[edit]

Hi Ckatz, Would you mind giving a little bit of explanation before deleting sourced material. And in case you are too busy to do so just understand that wikipedia does not have a veto system. Hence you can not delete thing saying that you are going to argue later. (Better bother to edit and argue when you are free.) I am undoing your undo, but I do not like to go to a "edit war". Let us talk and decide things up. If you are too bust too talk it is fine, then let it stay for sometime and then we can fix it up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pallab1234 (talkcontribs) 08:40, 17 June 2009

Terryl Rothery in cast section

[edit]

Obviously, there is a slow edit war going on over the inclusion of Teryl Rothery in the cast section (currently called "Main cast and characters").

I agree. 2600:6C48:7006:200:5C10:C716:750B:C3B2 (talk) 00:40, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Let's state the obvious: Teryl Rothery was never in the main cast, so she has no reason to be listed in the main cast section. WP:WAF specifically says Please keep in mind that though "main" cast members are determined by the series producers (not by popularity, screen time, or episode count). Screen time and story depth don't matter as they are debatable: Going by that, Chevron Guy (in the vast majority of episodes in 10 seasons) should be listed, and Hank Landry (minor main cast character without much of a story arc in two seasons) shouldn't be. If someone feels TR should absolutely be included, then the section must(!) be renamed "Main cast and characters", and TR should be split off from the main cast via a "Recurring cast" section, which should be kept down in length by some measures that need to be discussed. Opinions? – sgeureka tc 22:09, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

sgeureka, I found no comment containing either exact or even approximate matches for your "WP:WAF specifically says Please keep in mind that though "main" cast members are determined by the series producers (not by popularity, screen time, or episode count)." Searches in the Writing about fiction turned up no matches on most of the specific terms you used in your quote. If you would, kindly provide a quote, along with a link to the section from which it was retrieved. As it stands, your quote is wholly unfounded. Perhaps you referenced the wrong article...? Please double-check. Thank you.Clepsydrae (talk) 00:27, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize, this quote is from MOS:TVCAST, which is part of Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Television rather than Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction. – sgeureka tc 15:40, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Your point of comparison is a straw man argument. Chevron Guy never played to any depth of character. I've watched all episodes of all Stargate series at least three times yet even I had to look him up. In stark, raving contrast, both Hank Landry and Dr. Janet Frasier most certainly did play main, in-depth characters, and the loss of Janet Frasier was felt throughout the SG community of millions, so much so that despite the writers and producers including a wonderful memorial with military honors, the series received a great deal of grief from viewers.Clepsydrae (talk) 00:34, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, the number of episodes is irrelevant. On the other hand, if we're going by in-depth characters (rather than episode number), I'll argue that any of the major bad guys (Apophis, Anubis, Ba'al) had at least as much impact as Dr. Fraser (guess what 99942 Apophis was named after?), so that criterium is not helpful either. But we have to draw a line for inclusion somewhere, and opinions vary. Fortunately, we have an objective criterium: who plays a main character per the producers (i.e. actor contract status), and who is only recurring. And that's also what MOS:TVCAST re-inforces. Terryl Rothery was by definition not part of the main cast, and so shouldn't be listed as such. That's the whole point. – sgeureka tc 15:40, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiler...

[edit]

Please remove this or move it to the appropriate area of the page.

"The only influential Goa'uld in the last two seasons of Stargate SG-1 is the System Lord Ba'al (Cliff Simon), who is defeated in the direct-to-DVD film Stargate: Continuum."

This is a spoiler for those such as myself who have not seen the film and thush should not be included in the section for the tv show. 72.199.197.140 (talk) 02:02, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
