[edit]

In 2012, "Sharpships" was the 12th most-played song on both Myspace and Yahoo! Music and was the 21st most downloaded ringtone.

Sharpships is not the same of the song. PLease change it to "Starships".

Music video section needs a picture

[edit]

It gets complicated when we have to describe everything that she does and what she's wearing in different scenes. Bleubeatle (talk) 23:32, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The music video section is excessively detailed and completely unsourced. It was sourced, originally, but it appears the text was altered and the sources removed. That aside, I'm not sure exactly which frame of the video would be best for the article. I considered the "glow in the dark"y part, since it was compared to Super Bass in the media. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 23:33, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Starships (song)Starships – Looking at the disambiguation page, this article is the only one that spells "Starships" in that styling. The novel "Star ships", while similarly titled to "Starship", is different enough to be titled without parenthetical clarification. With that reasoning, I would suggest that "Starships" be moved to the plain title and include a hatnote referring to the disambiguation page. WikiRedactor (talk) 23:11, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit 580538772 explained

[edit]

As the “edit summary” field is too small, I will post my explanation for edit 580538772 here. I removed Eurodance from the list of genres in the infobox for the following reasons:

  • According to the article on Eurodance, most Eurodance tracks are written in minor keys, unlike pop songs, which typically are written in major keys (like Starships). 125 bpm is also a bit lower than the typical Eurodance track (140 according to its article).
  • The typical synth sound is heard in the first part of the chorus (and for a few seconds somewhere between the last two choruses). However, during the intro, the verses and the second part of the chorus the “Eurodance synth” is hardly there at all. The verses could well fit into a Europop song, so I am not removing that.
  • The second part of the chorus uses an Electro sound that is not found in Eurodance tracks.
  • The single source used for calling this a Eurodance track does not explicitly say that Starships is a Eurodance track.
  • It is not categorized as Eurodance or Euro House on Discogs.
  • It is not categorized as Dance in iTunes Store.
  • Both Discogs and iTunes Store categorize it as Hip Hop. Discogs also calls it Europop and Pop rap (which redirects to Hip hop on WP).

I also rewrote the first sentence in the Composition section, which read

"Starships" is a multi-genre song, which heavily utilizes Eurodance, Europop, and Euro house, while also incorporating other genres such as trance-rap, pop, dance, reggae, pop rock, hip hop, and electropop

because the given sources did not confirm that. None of the sources call it a Euro* song incorporating pop and/or Electropop. Most of them actually call it pop influenced by Electropop, Euro*, Hip hop etc.

While I removed “Eurodance” from the infobox, I added Hip hop/Rap and Electropop instead. Electropop because the given sources explicitly say so, Hip hop/Rap because the given sources, as well as Discogs and iTunes say so. 80.212.225.231 (talk) 01:50, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
