Few short notes

Well, i am a TCS employee(not manager but engineer) and have friends who work in all the so called BIG SHOT firms, but the thing everytime comes to my mind is that, whosoever is working (regardless of where he works) is unhappy, cause is the human tendency which always makes the grass looks green on the other side. So what does this implies, everyone should just keep cursing his company. I followed up all the articles present in the discussions( and archives as well), i find few guys are just fuming over TCS. And one more thing when i joined, my certificates were taken just for the purpose of verification and were returned to me an hour after the verification was completed. And friends one more thing i would like to say, the onsite chances which TCS gives to its employees are considered the best among all the IT circles Prithvi raj 07:19, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indian IT - Point of Inflexion

I would like to point out that ‘HR practices’ in Indian IT/ BPO needs a re-look than get into some form of a 'free for all' on specific companies. The point needs to be noted that TCS, Infosys, Wipro and other large Indian IT firms all have to varying degrees suffering from similar if not same "HR" syndromes.

Each of these firms are often finding their HR outlook, policies and pay packages 'falling' way behind the demands of their global ambitions and increasing global constituents of their work force. Far from using Internationals just for marketing - some like TCS, Wipro are using them for IT delivery. These are adding new dimensions and challenges – integration of global workforce (in reality) and not just in company brochures.

IT/BPO Industry in India are 'sweat shops' in smokeless factories. Here staff swipe-in, account for productivity/ work done thro' digital time mgmt systems (like in Infosys), face intelligent salary structures that cut away 30-35% of pay during bench phase (like in Wipro)in name of variable components and have nice amenties to keep the employee at work (like in most BPO campuses). The fact it the Industry is COMMODITIZED - not really the high-value solution engineering that media guided by NASSCOM and other would like everyone to believe. They are trying to hook gullible youngsters to change their outlook and interests to suit company short-to-medium terms needs (you will have students aspiring to become networking professionals learning SAP and MBA polishing their CRM skills, just to ensure bench time is limited and/or marketable Enterprise IT skills are imbibed).

The Industry has tried to 'digitize' most functions including HR. They have annual reviews, automated surveys, digital 'workflow' based appraisal mechanism, proverbial '360' degree feedback which and many more nice frameworks - which a Harvard/ Wharton professors would appreciate. All of them claim CMMi & PCMMi compliance and other parallel quality paradigms.

I think it is a moment of all of us to stop, think and spare a thought. When each of the India IT majors and some International majors like IBM, Accenture talk about adding 10k-30k this coming year alone.... where is the time for humane touch and employee friendly policies in face of scale and size mania.

Why would they?

Why would they use better HR practices? What is their incentive? They want robots, not human beings. They know that if they place an ad tomorrow, two thousand people will queue at their door. Why would they care about an employee? We seriously need strong employees unions in the IT sector. Otherwise these companies will continue to bully us with the backing of the media and the govt.

Konstable is obviously me. Your second sentence is not civil enough to warrant a response from me. As to your first question - I have already given my reasons for removing the anti-employee policy in the edit summary. But I will describe them again for your sake. The statements inserted do not fit with Wikipedia's policies of Verifiability (ie no reliable sources are cited) and Neutral Point of View; and since this statement acts as an accusation these are essential. These comments are also most likely Original Research on behalf of the user who keeps putting them in - please note that original research is against Wikipedia policy. If you want to insert something about their employee relations, please cite reliable sources and present it in a more neutral manner.--Konstable 07:09, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The section is indeed not suitable for Wikipedia based on the policies listed above. Also note that Wikipedia is not a soapbox to display your discontent with the company's practices. Wikipedia is based on verifiability, and as such it would be best if such information was provided by an external source (which could be properly cited). Thanks. Reinserting original research

It is unfortunate that a bunch of anon users feel the need to re-insert unverified original research attacks on the company. I am not against you saying anything bad about the company, I don't know a single thing about it, but if you need to make claims they cannot be original reserach, they have to be neutral and they have to be verified - these are Wikipedia's official policies. If you feel that my comments here are unjustified in terms of Wikipedia's policy, please feel free to discuss it on this talk page, or contact me on my talk page if you need to.

However, if you keep re-inserting this material I will have to report those involved as vandals to try to force an end to this, and blocks may have to be made. I don't want to do this because at least some of the anon editors behind this have made some useful contributions in other articles, and I assume these statements on this page are inserted through personal anger at the company and lack of understanding of Wikipedia's policies rather than vandalism. But if you continue without even any attempt on discussion, this may have to be done.--Konstable 02:46, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Large additions to the article

A lot of text has been added to the article on April 10, 2007 from the IP address 59.163.25.48. This IP address seems to be from IIT Bombay. The text looks pretty technical and has been added in about 30 minutes. There is a possibility that it could be copied/pasted from a term paper or a research paper or an article. Asia's Largest Software Firm

This is a claim made by the company based on the assumption that IT Services = India, and not anywhere else. If you combine IBM presence in India, China, Singapore, Japan etc. it is far larger than any Indian IT Services company. Number of Employees

Persistent addition of a low quality image by BNJ Nilam

The user in question has been persistently reverting edits to his preferred version of the page which includes this image in particular File:TCS Gitanjali Park Kolkata.jpg. I had reverted the addition of the image initially on the grounds of said image being much lower in quality than the previously used image. The user disagrees and started edit warring. I have limited myself to 3 reverts as per the policy and have made attempts to resolve the issue on the user's talk page to no avail. Promotional Tone + Close Connection to source

Disruptive edits

There is no promotional ???? material in the article, it is factual information, Facts are not advertisements ????, if by revenue it is top or some other metric it is top then we cant change those facts. If you have problem with terminology, then change that particular word, stop reverting large chunk of material again and again and again and again and again waste others time on talk page???

Lists like "World's Most Innovative Companies" are created specifically to promote companies. Compare to Standard Oil or any other company that no longer has to maintain its reputation.
The entirety of the lede is a promotion for Tata: the *only* information included is information that (1) makes Tata seem big and important or (2) makes positive associates with the Tata brand.
